Suggest a Colin Firth film?

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-07-04 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
So I may be going through a bit of a Colin Firth obsession and want rec's.

I've seen Kingsman (unf, he was incredibly hot and suave in this one), The King's Speech (SO GOOD, wanted to give him a hug), A Single Man (good, but I don't think I'll ever watch it again), The Bridget Jones films (well, okay, I'm in the middle of the second one and it's not my fav but he's very cute), Love Actually (this movie was a bit too crowded for me but it had good parts, and his last scene definitely made it worth it), and Pride and Prejudice (I liked it and will probably watch it again eventually).

I've also watched Girl with a Pearl Earring (but that was long ago and I remember shit), and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (I don't remember this one well either, but I do know I was so incredibly bored that I barely finished it. Maybe I wasn't in the right state of mind that day?).

Is there anything major I've left out or should watch immediately?

I guess you could try Valmont if you want to see him be a womanizing aristocrat in pre-Revolutionary France.

This has already been rec'd twice so clearly I need to see it.

The 'womanizer falls in love' story isn't my favorite but I can probably dig it! At least it means lots of sex scenes? (I hope so, anyway.)

The only downside being he was quite young (and not as hot then), but I'll give it a try!

Thanks!

Valmont. Version of Dangerous Liaisons with him playing the title role.

I will def go for that one next! Two rec's can't be wrong. (I think. I hope so.)

Hopefully womanizer!Colin means there's lots of sex scenes.

Thanks, anon!

I really enjoyed his scenes in Easy Virtue!
Tbh, even bad movies with Colin Firth in them still have Colin Firth in them.

Hmm, I need to see if that one is on Netflix. If not I will find a way. (Eventually.)

I've enjoyed him in everything I've seen, except the films I can't remember. Totes not his fault, though.

Tbh, even bad movies with Colin Firth in them still have Colin Firth in them.

Truly, words to live by. Right now I would watch just about anything he's been in.

I need to go back and see his old things. He was so delicious in P&P.
I will love him forever but damn.

He was great in P&P and he's perfect for that sort of role but I personally find him more attractive now.

Oh, if you had told my younger self that I would've been confused, but here I am thinking it...

Still, he is def Mr. Darcy for me and I've been thinking I should watch it again. I remember swooning the first time I saw it.

Mamma Mia!
Nanny McPhee

And if you can stomach Amanda Bynes, there's What a Girl Wants.

Ooo, I didn't know he was in Nanny McPhee!

I'm not a massive fan of musicals but since I saw him mention Mamma Mia! in an interview I have been thinking I should see that as well.

Basically what's going to happen is I'm going to get my hands on everything I can find and watch it all.

Thanks!

What a Girl Wants is kind of silly, but not bad.
Nanny McPhee is very silly, but okay.

I am okay with silly! So far I've enjoyed him in everything...he's very talented; he does a convincing job in all of his roles. I imagine I'll get to these later, but I might watch Magic in the Moonlight first just because he looks incredibly hot in that one. /shallow

Thank you for the suggestions!

He also had a supporting role in Shakespeare in Love, where he played an entertainingly insufferable lordly jackass.

Haha, Shakespeare in Love popped up when I typed his name into Netflix but I couldn't remember him being in it at all! Yet another film I watched forever ago and don't have much memory of. I'll probably watch it again but after some of the films I haven't seen.

Thanks!

(Yet again I will say UNF icon. Pretty sure I've said this on at least two other occasions, but you know.)

He played Lord Wessex, the one Violet was supposed to marry ( well, she does marry him at the end, after ... many other events. :p)

(Yes, Stanley <3. I keep meaning to snag one from Midsummer Night's Dream.)

It should be fun to see Colin unlikable for once. So far I've only seen him in things where he was a romantic or a gentleman.

(Another man who's aged gracefully! I should have a Stanley Tucci movie marathon after I get through with Colin's stuff.)

I was going to say his sex tape before I read your post and was like he wasn't in these....

Were you thinking of Colin Farrell? I'm not even sure he has a sex tape, but now that you mention it...I feel like I've heard of it before.

NGL, I would much rather a sex tape with Colin Firth but even then I couldn't watch it unless he had released it himself.

da

IIRC, the Colin with a leaked sex tape was Farrell.

I assumed as much! Was like 98% sure I would've heard if Colin Firth had one, hahaha, but that seemed unlikely.

If you can get hold of a copy, A Month in the Country. It came out in 1987 and is a quiet story, of two survivors of the First World War who are working on a historical site in a Yorkshire village. Also starring Natasha Richardson and Kenneth Branagh.

Re: Suggest a Colin Firth film?

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-07-04 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I've bookmarked this entire thread so I can come back to it, but I am finding it a bit more difficult to find Colin's older films. Unfortunately Netflix doesn't have most the films people have rec'd so I really wish there was another service where everything was available. I don't have the money to order all of Colin's films! (And fuck, does he have a lot of films. This isn't a surprise, but...still, wow.)

It sounds like something I would enjoy though, so I will try! Thank you for suggesting it!

The King's speech is very, very good. It's serious but well done. If you like drama Valmont is an oldie but a goodie. He plays a scoundrel and it's generally very spicy.

I was amused by Mamma Mia and Magic in the moonlight. It't fun to see him act silly from time to time. Don't watch Magic if you can't stand Emma Stone though....ugh.

The King's Speech was very good! I could watch it again and again; it was highly enjoyable. I am def going to try to get my hands on Valmont because it sounds like fun. (And a bit of a different role for him.)

Haha, do you not like Emma then? I don't think I've seen her in much, but I find her to be adorable in interviews and such. I don't mind at all. (And Colin looks delicious in stills of the film so I'm def going to give it a try!)

I will get to Mamma Mia too eventually, just to see if he can sing.
