Do you ever enjoy ship wars?
(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Do you ever enjoy ship wars?
(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)It's fun for me to break down other people's reasoning and have my own broken down. I don't mind when people insult me either.
Lately it's not as fun, though, because ship wars keep getting social justice tied into them. And while I don't mind if people call me a moron whose opinion is plainly WRONG (I tend to find this pretty funny, to be honest), I don't take kindly to being called a misogynist, a racist, a homophobe, etc.
I mean, if I've said something that's bigoted, point it out to me - quote the part of my post back at me that's bigoted. But it NEVER happens that way -- it's just "You're such a _______ for criticizing this ship!"

(Anonymous) 2015-07-06 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)X: "No, Character B deserves Character A sooooo much more than Character C!"
Y:"NU UH! Character C has been through so much and NEEDS Character A's love and attention."
X: "NU UH!"
Y: "YA HUH!"
It makes me not want to ship anyone with Character A and just read stuff about A all alone so I don't have to deal with that shit.
The only times I've ever been mildly amused by shipwars is when it's from a fandom I'm not in. Like watching an explosion from afar while you're sitting on your lawn eating popcorn.
Re: Do you ever enjoy ship wars?
(Anonymous) 2015-07-07 03:57 am (UTC)(link)I don't look into ship wars for fandoms I'm not in. At most, fandoms I'm only one foot in because I haven't completed the canon(s). And a lot of my fandoms are small (no critical mass of shippers) or don't have ship wars because there are "standard" but not necessarily canon ships that you either ship or don't (no rival ships), or don't have big ship wars because there are too many fans and ships (easy to get away from rival ships).

(Anonymous) 2015-07-07 05:48 am (UTC)(link)Re: Do you ever enjoy ship wars?
(Anonymous) 2015-07-07 09:17 am (UTC)(link)Sometimes they are inevitable see sawyer/kate vs jack/kate, stefan/elena vs damon/elena, chuck/blair vs dan/blair
But the ones between the fans of the canon ship and the fans of the unconventional couple that is not even a thing are nonsense e.g., harry/hermione vs hermione/ron or hermione/draco; merlin/arthur vs arthur guinevere; abrams verse kirk/spock vs spock/uhura. Wtf.
Few fandoms are blessed with a source material that doesn't have a triangle, watching fans ruin that with triangles and soap opera that are only in their imagination and not supported by the writers is nuts for me.
*to be fair, not including harry potter now because Rowling is an idiot who will shit on her own canon to still get attention see her 'I regret hermione/ron' after she had called hermione/harry fans delusional SMDH
*happy non shipper who doesn't give a damn either way dance*
