Inspired by #6

Are there any AO3 tags that will make you refuse to read a fic?

Re: Inspired by #6

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Demisexual/Aromantic/Any Other *speshul* orientation. And based on comments/hits it looks like most other people avoid them as well.

+1 (but sometimes I'll click on the fic anyway if I'm incredibly desperate and it's a character that rarely has fic written about them...the fic usually ends up sucking though)

If you're including asexual too that makes me sad cause I want asexual fics and if you're right and people avoid them then people writing more is probably not going to happen. :(

any time the words "A+ parenting" appear

Character of Color or Woman of Color

Not because I won't read about POC but because it just comes across as social justice point grabbing

Anyone x reader or anyone/reader -- so cringey

I can't read those Character/Reader fics either. And some fandoms are really into them.

Re: Inspired by #6

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
There's a minor character I really like who suffers badly from the reader insert plague. I swear, a third of the fics about him are reader insert crap (or shipping him with a canon character whose personality has been warped to the point where they're basically a stand-in for the reader).

All of that. Plus "Chromatic Character". I'm a POC and...ugh.

Long, disjointed tags declaring that the writers of the series/movie/game screwed everything up, that canon needs to be "fixed," that the author of the fic is mad as hell about it and isn't gonna take it anymore.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
long rambling tags that seem more appropriate for a tumblr post

also: "[character] feels." Fuuuuuuck off

"also: "[character] feels." Fuuuuuuck off"

This, so much. What the fuck does that even mean?

"drunk writing" "I wrote this while drunk" "experimental writing on acid"

or any variation of that really.

All the feels + other rambling and useless tumblr style tags
Don't hate me/what was I thinking
I was drunk
Roleplaying with a friend
Plz red and review
[adjective] character, e.g. angsty Merlin, sad Kirk
My first fic and non-betaed

I just recently saw a tag where the author said something to the effect of trying to make as many tags as possible. That was the actual tag.

haha, I've seen something like that before too! What douches (or maybe it was the same douche idk)

I feel so sorry for the tag wranglers.

I guess I'm odd in that I barely even look at tags anymore. People write all kinds of rambly shit in those so I always assume the worst and just ignore them.

I mean, obviously the ship tags are important, but other than those...

If the fic sounds good and is good, I'll read it. Even if the tags are silly or overdone.

Too many tags in general will make me avoid a fic. (One to two lines worth of tags is fine. Three is iffy unless they're all legit info tags like 'incest' or 'unhappy ending'. More than that and I rarely bother clicking.)

There's really no specific tags I avoid as a blanket rule, but I won't read trans portrayals of certain characters. I'm trans myself and I have a hard time buying a lot of the more popular trans character trends (trans!Fenris comes to mind).

Also, I don't read love-triangle fic and if the tags imply it might be I won't bother clicking. I'm here for my OTP, not my OTP plus them sleeping around with other characers.

Mpreg. I can't.

Re: Inspired by #6

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Not one specific tag, but if there's a massive wall of tags, that's more likely to make me not click a fic than any silly tag.

Re: Inspired by #6

(Anonymous) 2015-07-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
As others have said, too many tags in general will make me not click. But also, I really hate tags that are spoilers for the work itself, like "major character death" or "so-and-so finally gets laid" or whatever.
