"Which is basically why I've never taken an art class - they basically forbid anything anime-influenced." - If you ever /took/ an art class in the first place, you would actually realize the reason why the teacher probably won't let you draw "anime" is because they are trying to teach you how to draw outside of the influence you have and /grow/ as an artist. I'm pretty sure all my art teachers who made me draw still life drawings, (which, if you don't know, is drawings of objects, example, ruit in a bowl) were teaching me value, shape, form, contrast, ect. You don't LEARN by just drawing the same thing over and over again. Also, this is coming from a girl, who took three years of art courses in high school, and never had one teacher complain when I drew cartoons. :x

Oops, TL;DR. Points is. Teachers are here to teach you how to do the art well; not to watch you draw little anime doodles. :D

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-30 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
...thank you for telling me what I already know. Really. No where in my post did I baw about not understanding why in the WORLD an art teacher would forbid me from drawing things in that style.

I know what the whole point of taking art classes is. And I don't care enough to. It's not a hard concept to understand.

(Anonymous) 2008-01-31 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
oh for goodness sake

I went to the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. There were a lot of anime-lovers who had their style and were exactly like you, all "I AM STICKING TO ANIME ETC ETC"
That school doesn't want you to be like every western artist, and instead, it works with your style. You can faun over anime art all that you want but if you can't get the perspective correct, or the form correct, or your lighting correct, or anything BASIC correct, you're not going to make it. And a lot of people didn't.

If you're going to be biased, and still want to be good and stick with art as a profession, the least you can humanly do is take an anatomy class.

[identity profile] demyx.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
still want to be good and stick with art as a profession.

She stated repeatedly it was a hobby and she was not interested in having it as a job.

:/ if you're gonna yell at her, at least read her posts.

(Anonymous) 2008-01-31 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Even as a hobby, at least get a book on it. It helps.

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I get the feeling you're not reading what you're responding to.

[identity profile] demyx.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Helps who? If you're not interested in improving your craft and just doing it for fun, then there's no reason for her to go out and buy something to 'help' her with it. She's not using this skill for money or a livelihood like you and others, so it doesn't hurt anyone if she doesn't choose to pursue it more seriously.

It won't kill you to know that there's some people out there who just like to doodle and are satisfied with just that.

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:17 am (UTC)(link)

WHY DO LITTLE OLD LADIES TAKE POTTERY CLASSES IF THEY AREN'T GOING TO SELL POTS???

MAN, THIS SHIT IS INSANE.

[identity profile] demyx.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
BECAUSE THEY CARE ENOUGH TO SPEND MONEY TO GO TO CLASS?

WHY DO I CODE FOR A HOBBY BUT I DON'T TAKE WEB DESIGN CLASSES?

INCONCEIVABLE.

Actually they probably do because the stuff to do pottery, I assume, is expensive and they don't have the money to get it at home, so classes are like the only way to get it? On the other hand, all you need for art is paper and a pencil.

[identity profile] drworm.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, little old ladies takes drawing classes too. I've had older people in most of my classes. Even poetry.

Some people like to do things as hobbies and learn and improve. Because learning is more fun and enriching than staying at home masturbating (most of the time).

[identity profile] demyx.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
And some people... don't?

I don't see what's so hard to understand here. I never said people didn't have to go out and take classes. If people want to take classes and improve their hobbies and skills, that's fine with me.

And if there are people, like me, who are fine with teaching themselves without the aid of other people, then that's fine with me too.

Am I getting something wrong here? Are we all required by law to take classes for any little thing that we do for fun?

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
WHAT ABOUT THE LITTLE OLD LADY WHO BUYS CLAY AND DOESN'T GO TO CLASSES AND MAKES POORLY SHAPED BOWLS?

OH, SHIT. 8(

[identity profile] demyx.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
GET THE HELL OUT, THIS IS MY ARGUMENT. GO ARGUE WITH HER A FEW POSTS DOWN OR SOMETHING.

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
GOD, FINE. SEE IF I CARE.

That icon is amazing, btw.

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
...

I swear to god, can you not read? Let me put it in a different form:

- I do not want to go to art school.
- I am satisfied with drawing as a hobby.
- I am not interested in taking classes to get better at drawing.
- I DO NOT, FOR ANY REASON, WANT OR INTEND TO BECOME AN ARTIST PROFESSIONALLY. IT IS MY HOBBY.

I'm getting sick of saying the same things over and over because my opinion happens to disagree with a group of butthurt artists'. Stop. Seriously.

Just because I do not care about becoming better at my HOBBY does not make me ignorant or stupid. Since when did anyone who remotely liked doing something have to be a master and/or talented at it?

(Anonymous) 2008-01-31 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
You sparked it, bb <3

Still, people are going to see your main comment as ignorant. I applaud you getting it off your chest, but that doesn't mean it's going to be taken lightly. There are people here who take it as a profession and to see that you value anime art over western, it acts like a slap in the face.

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
No, I didn't. People who attacked me for expressing my opinion sparked it. :(

And taking it out on me makes them feel validated or something? Because I'm really not understanding how my opinion is begging for people to wank at me. I feel I expressed my intial response clearly, leaving little room for argument.

(Anonymous) 2008-01-31 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
You expressed your opinion, that's more than a reason for people to go apeshiat. That's what happens. When I first scrolled the page and saw your comment/opinion, I could only imagine how many replies you would get.

Godspeed.

(Anonymous) 2008-01-31 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
<3

I do want to apologize for the hobby/profession mishap, by the by. Since I'm doing it for the latter, I tend to be touchy. :3~

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't blame you, anon. All's cool.

[identity profile] ame-lj.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Okay - Like I already commented, You're not on my friend on livejournal, and I don't know a THING about you, so try not to get all offended because I don't know anything about you. Its just a comment. No need to get all freakin' testy.

[identity profile] chaoticchicken.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I've expressed the same opinion and explained myself multiple times, but a few select people keep telling me the same thing over and over again. I'm not testy, but I merely am finding it annoying that I've said something and have had someone completely overlook it, only so they could argue at me some more.

[identity profile] ame-lj.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
All right, whatever.

[identity profile] ame-lj.livejournal.com 2008-01-31 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, but you didn't talk about knowing that, so how was I suppose to know that? I was just telling you something because not all art teachers forbid you from drawing anime, but they are there to actually teach you.

Sorry I don't know how to read your mind and know what you know?
