I can understand that.

Could have used a few more women characters with prominent roles that weren't delegated to pushing buttons and being (rightfully) afraid / being animals.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-15 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
If only a female Indiana Jones existed! We could name her something like Laura Craft.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-16 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
XD

(Anonymous) 2015-07-16 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? Lara Croft is a male fantasy sex object. Unless there's a wildly different "Lara Craft" out there, you're completely missing the point.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-15 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that you mention it, that would have been awesome.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-15 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That would work a lot better now you mention it.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-15 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see that.
It certainly would of been more original and more entertaining.

Because honestly, am I the only one who thought Jurassic World was boring as shit?

Cosigning on this mostly to say how fucking much I want a legit female Indiana Jones

(Lara Croft doesn't count because I don't think Tomb Raider is very good + tonally it's completely different)

Chris Pratt's facial hair is appropriate.

That could have been equally cliched though given the standard stereotype of women are more emotional then men.

I can get that.

I sort of LIKED her - rather, I sort of liked that she sort of remaining true to herself while turning kickass.

The only thing that infuriated me was the "no children YET" line by her sister.

Yup.

My least favourite part was the kiss. Can't say it was a surprise, because cliche story telling, but it lacked suitable build up and was just annoying and unnecessary.

You know I think they were trying to reverse Ellie Satler and Alan Grant's debate on children from the first movie... but it didn't work for many many reasons.

I haven't seen that movie, so I don't know what those characters are like but I have always been craving the goody-two-shoes science boy to be swept away by an adventurous and risk taking female Indiana Jones type.
That and the 'good boy / rebellious girl' is my favorite rare trope.

Uptight lady needs to be taught a lesson in life to earn respect from manly man
It's a shame we get so much more of this and rarely any female leads who are the risk taking, trail blazers not afraid to break the rules. The female characters are still always portrayed as timid, weak, and afraid of little bugs and mud.

nightscale: Starbolt (Jurassic World: Claire Dearing)

[personal profile] nightscale 2015-07-15 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
There were certainly some spotty bits of writing concerning Claire that annoyed me but overall I really ended up loving her character by the end of the movie, but having the roles reversed could have been an interesting take as well.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-15 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
So, my highly conservative acquaintances on Facebook have been creaming themselves over this movie because apparently Chris Pratt prayed a lot on set and demonstrated what a good, Republican Christian he was.

Anyone, confirm/deny? I don't want to google and have to ready those dumb conservative news blogs.

...I am pretty sure it was more about her learning to actually give a shit about who could be hurt by the moneygrubbing going on behind the scenes, and he happened to be there and see how dangerous it could be. It was more respect for nature than respect for him.

But sure. It's sexist tripe. Keep going with that.

Yeah, she was a stereotypical "too uptight, needs a man to loosen her up" character, but I felt like she was still a strong female. Um, I think this is an unpopular opinion.

Huh, I kind of liked her character, though that surprised me. Two complaints, though:

1) It would have been awesome if they had some line like "yep, still never having kids" in there at the end ;p

2) The focus on her running in heels away from the t-rex was weird, because if you look closely, in all of the other shots that would have been hard to pull off wearing heels, she's... not actually wearing heels. She's wearing same-color flats. It undermines the whole "everything you can do backwards and in high heels" point I think they were going for with that when they have her taking them off for everything else (and swapping them with something from her extra-dimensional bag of holding, I guess).

(Anonymous) 2015-07-16 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
By the end of the movie, I wanted Chris Pratt and Jake Johnson's characters to hook up for some snarky animal-respecting prettiness; Johnson would have to lose the mustache, but it would be amazing. First time I've come out of a movie with a M/M pairing as the ONLY one that interests me.

Claire made me want to punch things- "Oh look, I can't be bothered to treat living animals with the tiniest shred of dignity (and my treatment of family is also pretty shite), but now I've seen one die so a single tear will roll down my cheek and Change My Ways."

(Anonymous) 2015-07-16 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I can agree with this and now I want to see him running with an elegant suit holding a briefcase.

I would love to see a movie like this one day. This trope is getting old.
