The first Hobbit trailer:

I just love the song and the whole feel of it. It got me so pumped.

(Of course then the movies were crap...)

I still feel that the movies had good parts, but imo the first film was by far the best; the others were messes, even if entertaining at times. The trailer was lovely though, and probably raised expectations too much.

I agree. After the first movie, I still felt good about the franchise. But the second one really killed it for me.

But I still love this trailer.

As much as I love elves, there was way too much focus on elves in the last two Hobbit films. And DOS was much longer than it needed to be.

For me, it wasn't so much the focus on the elves but that nothing was tied together. None of the characters had arcs. They didn't even bother to tell us what happened to the arkenstone in the end or show the end of the battle. The movies were one action scene after another at the expense of story and characterization. The dialogue was cringe-worthy in places. The characters could've been really fleshed out, but they were all caricatures instead.

I had hoped that stretching the movies into three films would allow the filmmakers the opportunity to really explore the 13 dwarves, the complexities of someone like Thranduil, or events like Dol Guldor But they didn't do any of that, which felt like such a waste of time then.

I mostly agree, but I still thought that the dwarves fared better in the films than in the novel. Even if they didn't get much screen-time or character development, they were still mostly more memorable than their book counterparts. (Some of which didn't even have descriptions.)

That's where the films failed, imo; I really did want all the dwarves to have plenty to do, and to see them bond more (with each other and Bilbo).

Some of the action scenes were fun, but they typically went on for far too long or went to absurd lengths. IA about the Arkenstone, but I'm hoping that the extended edition of TBOFA will show some of those things. (Even if I doubt it will make a massive difference to the quality of the film, a few additional scenes that tie things together can't hurt. ...Probably. Hopefully. I mostly want more Bilbo grieving.)

Yeah same for me tbh, like I still enjoy the later movies and they've got things I like in them but overall DoS and BoFA are kind of all over the place, the first was sadly the best of the lot(which is a shame because I loved all the characters but eh, something went wrong).

The trailers were real pretty though.
