I agree with the sentiment of this because a large part of fanfic is wish-fufillment on some level(whether it's GEN, shippy or smut), and I genuinely don't care what other people ship or enjoy in ficiton. So long as they're having fun it's all good. But sadly people like to get really judgy and superior over the dumbest shit(just look at fans of rival sports teams irl).

The phrase "wish fulfillment," comes across as condescending, I'm superior to you because I don't engage in that silly fantasy. I'm better because I "respect the creator."

Huh, fair enough, I don't mean it in a condescending manner because wish fulfilment can be fun and I enjoy fanfic a lot, plus there a lot of canon works could be considered wish fulfilment as well, doesn't make them bad for being so though.
