Eating idiosyncrasies?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-25 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you have any odd habits when you eat? Always eat gummi bears/animal crackers/whatever starting with the head? Have to eat certain foods in certain orders? Can your food absolutely not be touching? Share them here, I'm curious!

I have to finish eating whatever food it is I'm eating before I can eat a new food. All the chicken, all the vegetables, all the potatoes, all the macaroni, whatever. I can't understand people who can eat a little bit of this, then a little bit of that, and go back and forth.

Why is this weird? I've known tons of people who eat like that.

I've seriously never seen anyone eat the way I do. I always feel self-conscious, but I can't do it any other way.

This isn't that weird. I used to do that a lot. Still do.

Some meals, however, I enjoy combining the different components to see what they taste like together. (I blame watching Ratatouille for this lol.)

Thank you. I feel more normal now!

I do that too. My mom thinks it's weird.

If the meal includes some kind of bread, I will make anything into a sandwich. Thanksgiving dinner? Potatoes, peas, and turkey all in a dinner roll. I love any sort of sandwich, dumpling, riceball, etc, and am more than happy to make it myself if the food allows for it.

I eat the chocolate skin off swiss rolls first, then unroll them, lick off the cream filling and nibble away the cake, inch by inch.

I do this too!

*high fives you* You have no idea how pleased I am that I'm not the only person who does that!

Re: Eating idiosyncrasies?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
SAME. I honestly can't really enjoy eating them any other way.

o.O I thought I was the only person who did this!

Dangit, now I want some...

I eat the chocolate, but I don't do the rest. Mostly because we freeze the swiss rolls.

When I have bourbon or custard creams, I have to pull one of the biscuits off to expose the filling.

Jam and creams or jammie dodgers, I nibble round the edge until only the jammy centre is left.

Pop tarts I nibble around the edge until only the frosted bit remains.

Heel of the loaf? No thanks.

When I have cereal, I put my bowl on the floor to let whichever dog is quickest have the remaining milk.

I won't eat bread heels either.

My cat takes care of the milk or yogurt remnants from my morning cereal for me, but I'm not sure this is an eating idiosyncracy as much as it is a pet treat lol.

If I'm eating assorted candies (size, color, shape), I'll group them all up and then eat them in order by taking one from each group. If there is an uneven number among groups, I reduce all other groups until they have the number of the smallest group.

First one that comes to mind: I looooooove peanut butter M&Ms, and I always crack them in half with my teeth, dig out the peanut butter part, and then eat the empty halves individually. It's a great way to indulge my heinous sweet tooth while making sure I don't eat tons of chocolate in a short time.

Also, I have lots of trouble with my food touching, but I'm slowly getting more relaxed about it. I used to hate all kinds of sauces and dressings and such, if anything had sauce on it or juices it absolutely couldn't touch anything else on my plate.

I am also a peanut butter M&M enthusiast and I eat the the opposite way! I crack them in half then eat the candy+chocolate from around the peanut butter and eat the center last.

I eat hot dogs without buns, I just dip them in mayonnaise with some cheese and a boiled egg on the side.

There are certain candy bars (3 Musketeers in particular) that I like to eat by chomping off the chocolate on the inside and then eating just the gooey stuff on the inside. NO REGRETS!

When I was a kid, I'd do some similar with pickles, but as an adult, I've concluded that's just too much. ;p

one day I started eating Skittles in pairs (always different flavors together) and for some reason never stopped

Re: Eating idiosyncrasies?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-07-26 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
I sometimes do this with skittles since I like experiencing the flavour combination. More than two makes it a lot less unique and everything starts to get kind of muddy and same-tasting pretty quickly, but if you stick to pairs it tends to remain discernible.

...Yes, I think too much about food.

As a child, I sorted my M&M's by color and ate them based on a personal ranking system of colors. I still eat the green ones last.
