Yep. These days it's pretty much a big fuck you if you're a disabled person who would rather not be disabled and double fuck you if you're a person with an invisible disability (there are points where I've had to use a wheelchair as well, but it's not like people would ever guess that from looking at me today) who would rather not be disabled.

If it comes up I tend to take the time to tell people that that vocal minority doesn't reflect the attitudes of all disabled people. It's truly shitty though, because it's pervasive and it causes a lot of newly disabled people to feel guilty and ostracized if they make the mistake of seeking support in the wrong circles.

It's a shitty attitude and fuck the people who want to make it the mainstream. You don't need to be proud of something that actively lessens your quality of life and you don't need to embrace it either.
