Star Wars

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I just watched Star Wars: Clone Wars (the 2003 version), and now I'm watching Revenge of the Sith. I'm realizing that it's been a very long time since I've seen either.

Does anyone have any meta from around this time? Like fan-theories or in-depth musings about the prequels?

Or what was your favorite part of the Star Wars: Clone Wars? I really liked the two Jedis in the crystal temple.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I am prequel anon so I could write you PAGES of meta about Revenge of the Sith (though I have never seen the 2003 Clone Wars film, much to my shame).

There's stuff on boards.theforce.net that is from that time period.

http://boards.theforce.net/forums/prequel-trilogy.10669/page-232

This starts in 2004.

http://boards.theforce.net/forums/star-wars-saga-in-depth.10456/page-113

This in 2003.

And there's the inactive forums:

X-Files

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-07-26 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I am almost done with Season 1 (I am on episode 22) and I am enjoying it for the most part. But it was nothing like I thought it was going to be.

Also, I saw the one episode I can ever recall watching before (Darkness Falls) so I can now rest easy knowing that it wasn't just a fever dream. :P

Re: X-Files

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
What are the main differences, would you say? Just the stuff you've mentioned before, in terms of how definite and non-ambiguous they are about the existence of supernatural weirdness? Or other stuff, too?

Also, any general character or episode-specific thoughts?

(I know what you mean about Darkness Falls - I remember it was the only episode that I watched before I saw the series and I feel like it seems to show up in that context weirdly frequently. Just one of those things)

Ah ha. I just started watching X-files (I never saw more than scattered episodes when it was on) and i'm finding it...really, really dull. I love wee!baby!Mulder and Scully, they're just so *young*....

But man, it's an effort to wade through these episodes. I hope the end of season one/later season are more interesting.

Tolkien

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
What are your thoughts on "Aldarion and Erendis: The Mariner's Wife"?

I'm rereading it, and nothing in Tolkien manages to annoy me like this story.

Lawrence of Arabia

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I made 4 Lawrence secrets this week so apologies to those who are sick of them.

I did just find this gem:

http://telawrencemanga.tumblr.com/

A freaking MANGA about TE Lawrence. It's a little hard to follow although having read a TE Lawrence biography will help. They get some stuff plainly wrong, though.

Anyway, does anyone have a favorite TE biography?

And is there a best cut of the 1962 movie?

Oh and has anyone gotten a copy of Seven Pillars of Wisdom from castlehillpress?? Supposedly it's the longer 1922 version (compared to the shortened 1935 version on Amazon) but I was wondering if someone had it and was willing to share their impression before I shelled out for the shipping (since it has to come from the UK)?

Pacific Rim

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I recently watched it for the first time, which I realize makes me very late to the game. I love the stunning visual effects, and the fact that it's a little campy.

Re: Pacific Rim

(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Pacific Rim was everything Starship Troopers wanted to be, and wasn't. With way better SFX.

Pacific Rim is a wonderful monster movie, love the monster designs, love the camp, it's all good.

Re: Pacific Rim

It's sincerely one of my favorite movies of the last 5 years.

Man, I need a rewatch. It's such a great love letter to the kaiju and mecha genres.

I still totally think of which of my favorite pairings (romantic or otherwise) from other fandoms would be drift compatible!

Dominion

[personal profile] fishnchips 2015-07-26 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not a diehard fan of that show (I even got bored of it during the first season) but I have started watching the second season and I actually kinda like it atm, despite most of the characters getting on my nerves a bit...
I also think it's a bit slow right now, and I just really want Lucifer to make an appearance (I have my suspicions that he actually has been around all along in the form of a side character and I just really want to know if I'm correct!).

Kingsman: The Secret Service

[personal profile] comradesmiler 2015-07-26 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, for a film adaptation of a Mark "Unfunnies" Millar comic, that was fantastic.
now I join Elaminator in the "Harry Hart ain't dead club" and begin BrOTP'ing Eggsy and Roxy.

waaaaaaaitwaitwaitwait there's a COMIC?

Hmm. Is the book better or worse than the movie? Any major differences? Spoil me at will, IDEC. Is it in TPB, or am I looking at tracking down issues? Blech. Haven't been inside a comic book shop since 1994....

I am also in the "Harry Hart Lives" camp.

Look, there was no close up, no burial, Valentine and Gazelle simply walked away without even checking his body. He is clearly still alive.

Now how I'm not sure, but people can survive getting shot in the head! *starts sweating*

Weirder things have happened in this very film.

(But seriously, Vaughn has said bringing him back is a possibility, I'm just not sure if they'll follow through with it.)

And yes, I'm hoping that Eggsy and Roxy will get missions together in the next film, but that they'll remain friends who snark together and support each other unconditionally. They're very sweet together, but my heart is set on Harry/Eggsy despite the fact it would never happen, lol.

Feel free to chat with me about Kingsman at any time! (Anyone and everyone.) I loved this film, jfc.

Who do you think could be the next Arthur, btw? Someone new? I've seen lots of "Harry should come back and be Arthur", and while I would love that a part of me would be disappointed that he wasn't still kicking ass. (I'm going to ASSUME Arthur doesn't go on missions, anyway. He needs at least ONE mission with Eggsy.) Merlin doesn't seem like the sort who would want the job, so I guess it'll end up being some random Kingsman we haven't met yet.

Anything in particular you want to talk about? (I'm addicted to the soundtrack, btw. I can't stop listening to Bonkers.)
