Re: Is anyone tired of the "realistic anal sex" trend?
(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)Overall I do like awkward, fumbling sex that takes practice and has some hang ups but is overall fun, but I also don't need a bunch of focus on gross details or goes out of the way to make things unpleasant? I like sex (and in real life actually) in fics to be FUN.
(Also does only anal sex get this treatment? I never see people discussing things that can go wrong in vaginal sex even though they certainly exist.)
Re: Is anyone tired of the "realistic anal sex" trend?
(Anonymous) 2015-07-26 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)The thing with vaginal sex is that most people don't realize there's a lot of things that can go wrong with it. Most people also don't seem to realize you can actually prep for vaginal sex if it's someone's first time. They just think, "oh, if the woman's a virgin, her hymen gets torn, it hurts, she bleeds a little, and then it starts feeling good after a little bit." They don't think about lube (I don't think I've EVER seen lube used for PIV in fanfic), or progressive fingering, or relaxation, or about how a lot of women's hymens have either already been broken or stretched and thinned out by the time they have sex (I mean fuck, most of them don't even know where the hymen actually IS or that it's not a complete, solid seal), etc etc.
Whereas with anal, what most people think is, "oh, the first time is EXCRUCIATING and will result in TERRIBLE THINGS unless there's lots of lube and hours or days or weeks of careful preparation!"

(Anonymous) 2015-07-27 01:10 am (UTC)(link)but its seen as weird to bring up because you aren't "supposed" to need extra help. Its stupid
I've heard stuff like this before and it's just so weird. I've known a couple of women who are too embarrassed to use lube when they need it and guys who get shamed because if they use lube during sex, then they clearly weren't able to get their partner aroused and wet enough to have sex without it (which is just...what? no). I'm usually good to go during PIV sex, but I still need lube every once a while for some extra help. And, hell, sometimes it's just more fun to have sloppy lube sex.

But the second fic actually had a scene, after the married couple grew to care for each other, where she wanted to have sex but was disconcerted to find that she was dry and kind of sore from going at it like rabbits the day before, and asks her husband to break out the lube.
I also thought the author of the second fic was cool for posting to her blog that while she tried not to write blatantly unrealistic sex, her fic still used some soppy romance novel bullshit tropes, and proceeded to point out the most egregious, since while she'd prefer that young teens not read her fic, she knew they'd do it anyway, and even some older people still had a lot of misconceptions about sex, and she didn't want to perpetuate them.
And I vaguely remember a third het fic where a newly married couple is getting down to business, and the husband pulls out a bottle of lube, but his wife points out she probably doesn't need it because horseback riding and she masturbates a lot. The husband laughs, calls her "his kind of girl," and asks if it's okay if they use it anyway, so they do.
