I know exactly how you feel, OP. Reese/Finch was my ship from the very first episode I watched, and my feelings have only gotten stronger the longer the show has went on. They're adorable together and I can't get enough of them on screen. (I really hope they have more scenes together next season.)

Wish I could rec you stuff, but I haven't experienced much of the fandom. (I did rec some Root/Shaw vids a while back, so when you catch up if you're interested don't be afraid to ask me! I need to watch more Reese/Finch vids.) This art is gorgeous, btw!

This is one of those instances where I kind of wish the show would actually go there (I don't need it, it would just be nice), but it seems highly unlikely.

So much about the ship and the dynamic of these particular characters makes me happy. It's a shame I can't think to rec of any particular fics.

Really, I ought to write some fic for it myself.

spoilers (I can't remember when this shit happened either, so be warned)

I know! They have a lot of great moments, especially with Bear, and that entire episode with the baby. When they're being domestic and bringing each other food or going for a walk it makes me so happy. Reese's reaction to Finch being kidnapped was pure shipping gold, and that moment with the bomb... Jesus. They care about each other so much.

Also, I loved when that woman assumed Reese was Finch's date. His reaction there combined with that Elementary crossover commercial really has me thinking he's genuinely attracted to Reese.

i still can't fucking believe there's an epsiode where they STEAL A BABY.

(i also can't watch that one a lot b/c it actually makes me sad, i'm embarassed to admit. something about babies being hurt... ugh.)

or the bit where Finch BUYS HIM AN APARTMENT FOR HIS BIRTHDAY. this ship sails itself!

9there was an Elementary crossover commercial? omg, can i have a link pls?0

Awww, see, I just reveled in the fluff bits, but of course there was that moment near the end that...I can understand being hard to watch. It was fucked up.

But Finch being so concerned about the babies safety was so adorable and made up for the rest to me.

Finch buying him an apartment was beautiful!

As was that scene where Finch is drunk (and I think drugged?) and telling Reese to ask him anything, and he's smiling at Reese and looks so happy and affectionate and Reese won't do it. That was so wonderful, because Reese was doing everything he could to find out more about Harold, and there he went and turned down his offer because it didn't feel right.

(I see anon has already linked you, so enjoy!)

omg that whole scene.

i still personally headcanon that Finch probably had a tiny hero-worshipping crush on Nathan Ingram. (because it's more tragic that way.)

I've always thought that too, and nothing has happened to convince me otherwise!

Both work for me, tbh. He had a thing for Nathan then, he has a thing for Reese now; he's just keeping quiet about it.

Yeah, Finch buying an apartment for Reese was lovely. I do understand why it might be difficult to watch the episode with a baby, but it was still an amazing story, I loved how Finch was so concerned that he simply had to steal the baby (that scene between Carter and Finch in the store was priceless).

The Identity Crisis ending was wonderful, Reese not wanting to take advantage of Finch being high on ecstasy to get answers despite him being immensely curious. And Finch sounded so sad and disappointed when he asked John if he was leaving. Ugh. Just first season is full of stuff like this.

I miss Carter... Carter and Finch never had enough scenes together.

And Finch sounded so sad and disappointed when he asked John if he was leaving.

Yes! It was incredibly easy to read into that scene...that maybe Finch wanted Reese to stay for a different reason and John was tempted but wouldn't take advantage of Finch's state. This show.

I can't see them getting together because that's not how I see Finch (both his general character, and his specific Vanished True Love thing which I like a lot) but I can see unacted-on mutual attraction.

Re: spoilers (I can't remember when this shit happened either, so be warned)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, this why I sometimes feel weird shipping Reese and Finch like mad...I think Finch definitely has feelings for Reese and vice versa and I can totally see them being attracted to each other (that episode when Reese is getting dressed saying he has to raise his game up if he's gonna be seen with Finch, and Finch barely containing himself from tying John's bowtie for him and not to mention how proud he looked when a woman at the event thought John was his date and commented on how gorgeous he was). I don't see either of them acting on it though, but it's definitely there.

I don't think about them together much in the physical sense tbh, because even though it's a nice picture I could just as easily see them having a romantic relationship without sex.

Them never actually admitting their attraction or feelings for each other works for me too (and is sad af, but again, isn't OOC), but if they were ever going to get together I think we would see Finch angst about it (the true love thing you mentioned).

They have commented on their closeness now and then, but they def have an unspoken bond as well.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I was gonna ask for some Reese/Finch recs, but then I figured I've just started the show and it's kinda tough finding fic that doesn't contain any mention of the events/characters from the newer seasons, so I guess I'm gonna wait until I'm all caught up.

This is one of those instances where I kind of wish the show would actually go there (I don't need it, it would just be nice), but it seems highly unlikely.

Yeah, unlike many other ships I've shipped, this particular relationship looks like it could actually work. I didn't even think I would end up shipping them, but then Reese got shot and Finch rushed to his rescue...and then that scene where the homeless woman (name escapes me atm) asks John who's taking care of him now and he replies "Someone new" and Finch's face killed me -- I mean, it's all so subtle, both in writing and in delivery, but I cannot unsee it. At the end of Identity Crisis I knew that was it and that there was no going back, couldn't unship it even if I wanted to. The season one finale sealed the deal for me even further.

I agree it would be amazing for Finch/Reese to be endgame, but I agree with you about it being highly unlikely. I do hope, once the time comes to end the show, they get a good ending. It doesn't have to be a happy one, and I don't think it will be, but I hope the writers do these amazing characters justice and make it a good one.

If you don't want spoilers def stay away from fanfic! It can be VERY hard telling what has them and what doesn't, so your only option would be to find stuff written during the first season and read that. I do want to read some Reese/Finch, but I never got around to it. When/if I do I'll rec it in GC.

I think you're right in that they could work in canon, but I don't think the show will go there anyway. However, I would love to be proved wrong. I don't even feel like it would feel unusual or all that shocking, and as long as the writing was correct then it would feel like a pretty natural progression of their relationship.

asks John who's taking care of him now and he replies "Someone new"

Ugh, so shippy. So good.

It seems like the show MIGHT end after this upcoming season. The show-runners seem very self aware though, so no matter what happens I think they want the best for it and want a great resolution for the cast, so I'm going to have faith in them. A happy ending is probably not in the cards, at least not for everyone, but I can't imagine them not doing what they feel makes sense for the plot and I am kind of excited at the prospect of seeing it all unfold, no matter when it ends.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard it might end too...there will also be only 16 episodes, iirc. The writers said they have had a plan on how to end it since the very beginning, so I guess the ending should make sense. I hope it will, I really hate when something I adore wraps up with a shitty finale.

I know chances are the two of them won't end up together, at least not in way that will make it clear, but a tiny nod in that direction would be nice at least.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think there was some major foreshadowing in the pilot when Finch told Reese they would both sooner or later wind up dead. Essentially, they made a suicide pact and I would not be surprised if the show ended with Finch's 'prophecy' coming true. It wouldn't be happy and it would break my heart, but it would make perfect sense.

16 episodes is kind of disappointing...I thought we were getting 22. :( But anything is better than nothing, and 16 is still enough to get a good bit of plot in.

The writers said they have had a plan on how to end it since the very beginning

That pleases me! I would much rather they have a game plan then make things up as they go along. When the writers already know what they want things tend to go more smoothly.

Seriously though, if you would like some Finch/Reese fic that doesn't require knowledge of anything post-s1 I should be able to help you out. Mostly AUs and PWPs, but I think I got one or two longer fics set in s1 as well.

Thanks, I'll have to check that out then :) Any links with fics you could recommend would be much appreciated as well. I'm now at s02e7, so anything set before could work.

astolat has some really great Reese/Finch fic. I think they're set pretty early on. I wouldn't know, since I've watch the first episode of PoI...

It can be tricky but not impossible. I'm still one season behind but can't help looking for fics anyway. I just go somewhere like AO3 and browse through the fics by publish date. If you check out the ones that were written first you'll find stories that pre-date any spoilers. And once you start to find stories that reference certain episode you also know when to stop reading through them.

AO3 has fics from as far back as 2011. 71 whole pages to slowly work through while you catch up.
