I did find it kinda annoying how the "male" volcano was obviously supposed to be fat and crusty looking, but the "female" one was skinny and pretty.
That trope has always kinda rubbed me the wrong way.

Inb4: "they're molded off real people!"
I still don't care.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
lol I was just going to mention the whole sjws complaining about the male volcano being fat and the female one being skinny and it turns out it's already happened here.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Did we have a secret about 'why is sadness fat from inside out' - I feel like that would deserve scorn more than this.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
A small part of me feels that way. But most of me related to Sadness so much and therefore appreciated her fatness as being part of a character I could finally completely relate to that I didn't care.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha I so do NOT think it's a coincidence that Sadness was fat. Imagine if Joy (or the plucky tween) was fat instead, nope just wouldn't happen.

It was just a minor annoyance for me like every other minor annoyance. Not bothered to make a secret for it, though this is the "minor fandom annoyance" community.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
it's true tho

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell this place that anything might hint at a problem and you're just asking for it.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
This just in, having different opinions automatically means you're a evil sjw!!!! Look out everybody here I come!!

I'm sorry you can't handle mild anonymous criticism against animated volcanos anon.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
How is this anything "sjw"?
Nonny wasn't even being rude or mean about it.

No offense, but you anti-sjws are just as obnoxious as the sjw you claim to hate so much.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I laugh at extreme sjws who say shit like "everyone in this cartoon is trans, demiromantic and poc and if you come tell me otherwise I'll break your neck with my weaponized femininity uwu", but really, this is legit compaint.

+1

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
okay, like, i agree that king of queens is a bad show, but at the point where we're saying that any representation of a fat man with a non-fat woman is a bad thing, i think we might be going a little too far

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm just fucking tired of it tho

just

uhg

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
that's legit but there's a difference between being personally tired of a thing and systematic critique of a thing

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps for them they are tired of it because it's a damaging trope? That is a big one for many.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-28 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
If only this trope existed in only one bad show..

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
that bit was mostly a joke

because i'm very witty, you see

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
NO YOU SHOULD ONLY EVER DATE YOUR BODY TYPE. WE MUST KEEP FAT PEOPLE WITH FAT PEOPLE AND THIS PEOPLE WITH THIN PEOPLE.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
literally no one said that

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
That isn't the problem. The problem is that you never see the reverse. Actually, you very rarely see fat men with fat women in media either (I can only think of a few examples). Generally women in media are always thin and stereotypically beautiful no matter what her male partner looks like.

And oh look, a movie with an old male lead with his hot young female love interest, kill it with fire... no actually, it's just more of the same fucking thing, because it ties into widely palatable ideas about het romance. Like this.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
i don't think it does tie into widely palatable ideas about het romance. that's part of my point here. i think it's the outcome of very specific things in popular media. don't get me wrong, a lot of those things are basically deeply patriarchal or misogynist worldviews - i'm not denying that - but i don't think the way that relationships are presented in movies and TV is an accurate mirror of anyone's views on relationships, really.

So it's still deeply offensive when it's based on a real life couple?

Where he was fat, and she was skinny?

Nice to know real life is so offensive to you. How do you go outside when there's the chance of such offensive repulsive heteroes doing things like fighting for freedom like you will never, ever do?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
DA

The main volcano's design was inspired by Iz, but there's no mention of Marlene, and it seems to have been based off of the creator's life experiences rather than Iz and Marlene's relationship.

DA

Yeah but there's some selectivity going on when only certain tales which fit in with current social norms get told from real life, and usually edited to fit in even further too.
