The short was just so drawn out and unmemorable I can't care any further. Still remember it more than whatever showed in front of MU.

I did find it kinda annoying how the "male" volcano was obviously supposed to be fat and crusty looking, but the "female" one was skinny and pretty.
That trope has always kinda rubbed me the wrong way.

I just thought it was cute. It never occured to me that people were going to get upset because it was a boy volcano & a female volcano. I got a bit teary when they finally met but were facing the wrong way :(

i always wondered if this short was related to that hawaiian singer, israel kamakawiwoʻole, and i always thought it was a very sweet short. maybe not that memorable but damn it made me cry because of how sweet it was.

and now i find it sweeter it's about him and his wife. honestly, i don't think this short is an appropriate hill to die on about "straight interaction", especially when these assholes are trying to erase the love he and his wife clearly had for each other.

It has the same problem Inside Out (and a lot of Pixar and animated stuff has). The male characters can look like ANYTHING the female characters HAVE to look LIKE LADIES. James Cameron gave the main female in Avatar "tits" even though he admitted her species wasn't mammary, because he didn't want it to look like whathisface was kissing a dude. All the female Emotions in Inside Out look like girls while Fear and Anger have distinct character designs. Women are not allowed to have weird head shapes or no hair (she has HAIR, she's a fucking volcano).

whether it's right to complain about the heteronormativity of this particular short I'm glad at least people are talking about how ridiculous it is to gender inanimate objects so they appear "straight," and how aggressively it's done in media. it'd be laughable if it wasn't so defensive. I mean... bone tiddies, man.
