I haven't seen Hans woobified, but I've enjoyed the meta that looks to excuse the shoddy face heel turn written into Hans' story by trying to invent different motives for him. (My favorite is that the trolls actually changed Hans ["Get the fiancé out of the way"] so that Kristof could become Anna's boyfriend instead.)

How is meta that absolves Hans of his faults and pretends he didn't actually do anything wrong not woobification? The troll theory is absolutely blatant woobification (up there with the 'Loki was being mind controlled in Avengers' theories).

Eh. "Loki was mind controlled" doesn't have to be complete woobiefication, though. There are plenty of theories that imply he is still to blame for most of what he did/that he wasn't exactly mind controlled but they certainly had some leverage over him (which is, in fact, canon).
One of the reasons this theory exists is because his plan seems so damn stupid that "it was stealthily set up by him to fail" makes more sense than "he just is that stupid".

Forever wondering if Whedon meant for that or just didn't care.

Fair enough; I don't have a standard for woobification. Just going on my own instincts.
