there are two common scenarios to explain this, anon:

1) the juggernaut/bandwagon/prevailing trends in fandom are that way because it's the easiest for the lowest common denominator to grasp, so even if it's "off," people still run around parroting it like it's truth. They don't think deeper, they just reblog crap someone else came up with because they like it.

2) you are actually the one not seeing it correctly, because of different experiences, mental illness, whatever. Sometimes fandom is right about a thing.

Both things happen. Both things happen regularly. Which one is your situation? Don't know, can't tell. But if you always find yourself the odd one out and get that frustrated over people not seeing things the way you do, no matter which fandom it is, you might want to look into #2.

or 3) they have a really unique take that is entirely valid from a certain perspective/frame of reference. Just because OP can't articulate their thoughts clearly doesn't mean the thoughts are wrong; it could simply mean it's unformed.

Not OP, but I think it's a bit of both for me. I've not been properly diagnosed for anything but I do know I have social anxiety and it makes it hard for me to connect with people unless I am comfortable with them.

But at the same time there are popular trends in fandom that just drive me crazy. I hate how fandom coddles characters who are legit villains or bullies and treats them like precious cinnamon rolls. I hate ships that involve lots of one-sided physical/emotional abuse that fandom romanticizes or portrays as for comedic effect. Yet, all these things are popular in my fandom.

I don't mind people liking those kinds of characters or ships if they can accept them for what they are, but the way they fawn over them and enable their bullying behavior makes me kinda uncomfortable.
