Good news thread!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-08-01 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Not had one of these in a while. What good news do you have? No matter if small or huge.

Last night my sister and I reserved our hotel and bought our train and Lion King tickets. The only thing left are our airplane tickets. But, this means we are going to DC in March!

Congrats!! I know you've been planning this for ages and I wish you the best of luck on it. I really hope you have an amazing time. Feel free to poke me for more advice as it gets closer (especially if you have any questions for NYC)

Thanks! We are actually only spending one day in NYC and shouldn't have to ride the subway (thank god). We will be going from the train station and walking to Times Square.

Are there any unique stores you would recommend in Times Square? We will have like 3 hours before the show to just look about.

Everyone loves M&M World. It's on one side of Times Square and is pretty impressive. If you walk fast, head up to Rockefeller Center and hit up Nintendo World and the NBC Store, if you like NBC shows they have tons of souvenirs.

If you like plays/theater/acting, the Drama Book Shop is a neat little treasure.

Obviously, you probably can't do all of this, so definitely prioritize but feel free to bug me more because I've been to all of these shops (and can even go back before your trip if you have specific questions)

Google is your friend and double and triple check before heading out to stores because some open and close in the blink of an eye, sadly.

Thank you! I am currently mapping out stores on google to see how far apart they are and all that. We plan on eating at Junior's because they got a lot of cheesecake.

My computer got reset, so hopefully I will stop having driver issues that make it bluescreen. (sadly, now I have to reinstall everythinggggg boohoo)

I hope the reset works! Computer problems are the worst.

It's true :(
It turns out that despite trying to get a decent laptop and spending time researching, the one I chose is probably not the best one for what I need it to do. It's just not quite strong enough, especially not for some of the graphics programs.
I'm stuck with it for the next few years, though... barring an anonymous benefactor...

I know! My sister got a laptop and it died on her a year later.

I ran my 8K this morning and finished in 53 minutes. I shaved 5 minutes from when I ran it last year! :-D

Ah! You mentioned that yesterday! I am glad you did well. :D

Congratulations! I've never run quite that far before. 5Ks are much more my speed.

My friend moved slightly closer. 10 minutes instead of 20.
This makes a pretty huge difference for me because 10-15 minutes is my current limit for being in things that move without throwing up.

Ooo, that's awesome! I'm glad you finally got to reserve your hotel and tickets. You've put a lot of thought into this trip, so hopefully it will live up to (and surpass!) your expectations.

Uh...I kind of...ruined my old, shitty modem (I don't want to say how, it's so embarrassing, lmao) so I got a new one. Had to get a new plan to go with it, but the new plan is much better and my new modem is wifi capable so it's finally like I'm living in the modern age.

The bad news is that the charge port on the new modem is fucked, so I'm going to have to go back to the store tomorrow and probably exchange it for a new one (and it's a long ass drive), but...wifi.

Thank you. I hope it goes well, too. :)

Ah, so perhaps it was a good thing you [REDACTED] your modem? Sucks you have to get the charge port but wi-fi is amazing.

Well...I definitely wasn't planning on shelling out this much money (and I still need a new cell, sometime soonish hopefully), but I still got a good price and not having to worry about data usage from now on will be worth the cost.

If I could go back, I would tell myself "Don't worry, it'll work out" because seriously, that modem was shit.

(Actually, if I could go back I'd drop my modem in a bowl of soup earlier. Might as well admit to my laughably idiotic fuck up. It was a USB modem, I was eating at my desktop, I dropped it, the rest is history.)

Psssshh. Soup isn't that bad! My dad once dropped his new cellphone in a glass of tea!

Soup FEELS pretty bad, but I'm not even sure how you could drop a cell phone in a glass of tea! (It must've been a flip phone, right? Current cells are so big I doubt they would fit in the glass, lol.)

Re: Good news thread!

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2015-08-01 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
He did, yeah. I saw pics. It kinda sucked because he was meant to jump on Sunday (when I could be here), but weather was shit so he jumped another day, when I had to work. So i was sort of fretting waiting for a text but he was obviously fine and enjoyed himself.

Which city are you flying into? Because if you are planing on to DC, you might consider flying into BWI.
kaijinscendre: (Default)

Re: Good news thread!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-08-02 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
We are flying into Ronald Reagan because BWI and the other one (IAD?) are over 90 minutes from our hotel by metro. Ronald Reagan is about 45 minutes by metro.
