Follow politics or particular politicians? In the US, things are really getting exciting (ahem) with the presidential nominees.

I'm pretty sure Mike Huckabee remains my favorite (no, not really, guys) for the crazy shit that comes out of his mouth, but honestly, I almost feel sorry for the Republicans because all of their hopefuls are totally insane. When you make Jeb Bush look somewhat reasonable, you know you have a problem.

So, any political drama? Post so we can laugh about it. Because if we don't laugh, we'll cry.

This is the post that inspired the thread. Mike Huchabee's latest gaffe... if you can call it a gaffe when he's clearly serious... is that he will use military force to stop women from getting abortions.

The interesting thing about this (outside its obvious insanity) is that I don't think it was a gaffe. I think it's Huckabee, as the sort of politician who is attuned to his political environment and minute changes in it in the same sort of way that a springbok is attuned to the veldt, responding to the changes that the Trump has wrought.

This is going to be the craziest goddamn primary season since at least the 70s.

(I guess I should know better by now, because the candidates this year are just...unbelievable. In the worst way possible. This isn't the first time Huckabee has said something batshit either, but still, that's...wow.)

Like, it's not misinterpreted or anything. He actually said that he would use the military to stop abortions regardless of what the Supreme Court said. It's in basic contravention of every aspect of the American constitution and American democracy.

What was REALLY telling was that when he was told that doing so would be a major breach of the Supreme Court, he started citing cases of other presidents violating Supreme Court rulings. It was like, "well the OTHER kids were doing it, too! so there!"

Though using military force against American citizens on American soil certainly doesn't have the precedent that Huckabee thinks it does.

The only good thing about these kind of comments is that the sheer stupidity will stop (most) people from voting for them, so that's a plus.

Fun fact I just discovered: the Democratic Party does not consider Mike Huckabee a serious enough candidate to devote resources to analyzing and rebutting his statements.
