I think showing James to be a human being who acted in a bad way was a really brave choice actually. Sometimes people who turn out to be nice and good can have moments where they act like assholes, especially if they have an easy life where they're popular and there's an easy target like Snape. It's not nice to admit it, and it doesn't excuse the behaviour but not all bullies grow up to be horrible people. It's one of the annoying things about life.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-02 12:46 am (UTC)(link)Too bad a lot of the kinds of people who do not mature past their teen years (and cannot grasp the concept of other people maturing past their teen years) are the type of people who gravitate towards fandom (because it's the only place that accepts people like them -- other social circles tend to not like immature people like that) and therefore these kinds of people are overrepresented in fandom and have a large voice.
