Re: Were you a bully?

...A little bit of one, honestly, when I was still hanging with the jocks rather than the nerds. I didn't realize what I was doing until I got some empathy for the other side, so to speak. And then when I became uncool for hanging out with them, people picked on me (or tried to), hurrah!

I always rationalized it away, like "oh she called me fat, so kicking her down the stairs was totally justified" or "he insulted my friend, so mocking him mercilessly until he cried was just standing up for her" or "you hate me and talk shit behind my back so of course I'm going to ruin your party, it's justice" etc., but it wasn't even remotely proportional, and it was mostly just to make myself feel better. In reality, I was just using the fact that I was bigger and stronger and more intimidating than most kids my age to hurt people I felt were asking for it, which is, well, bullying.

The full-on "round up your friends to beat the shit out of someone because you don't like the way they dress" thing I'll never understand, though. Those kids just seemed like straight-up sociopaths.
