I have no idea how to make fanvids, but I try anyway. You kind of have to jump into it, in my experience. Maybe read up a little on what program to use if you don't have one and start messing around. Depending on the program, there are usually tutorials on youtube for how to do specific things. Good luck.

Windows movie maker helped me a lot years ago, though I suppose I've never really made a great fanvid.

When it comes to setting the video to the music's lyrics, the only thing I can say is to find the balance between being irrelevant and being way too damn literal.

Are AMVs still a thing? I hope so, but I feel like we aren't in that golden age anymore. I loved AMVs, though I never made a full one myself. Plus they helped me find new songs, it was the best.

I can say though, Windows Movie Maker is pretty good for basic videos, I've done other videos with them. It isn't too complicated, and it's free if you use Windows.

...Forgot to watch this, oops. Okay, I seriously need to get around to it.

But I one hundred percent feel you! Over the years I've had various fanvid ideas, but have only once tried editing one, and I didn't get far before I gave up in confusion. I'm basically too lazy to bother learning; I would much rather watch other people's than spend time trying to make my own. Maybe one day I'll change my mind and stop being lazy...however, that seems doubtful.

Yeah, I've found that Windows Movie Maker is dreadful for making fanvids, which is a shame cause it's everywhere. Editors like Premire Pro take a bit to learn at first but take away the headache of making all the cuts line up.

WMM is the one I tried, I think...but again, I didn't put much time or effort into it, lol. I've seen people mention using WMM who did a fantastic job, but I imagine they had to learn the program through trial and error.

Cute icon, btw!

HOW TO MAKE FANVIDS

[personal profile] abyssal 2015-08-09 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Here’s a quick and dirty version on how to make fanvids.

Prelude: Google everything about high definition, bit rates, encoding, frame rate if you want a good background. Also anything I mention here…

1. You’ll need a video file of the show in question. Remember, 1080p hi def is going to chew up a LOT of memory, so you’ll need a fast computer with a lot of RAM. Otherwise try and get something smaller.

2. You will need a video editor. Windows Movie Maker is free and excellent. One video track, one sound track. Avid or Adobe CS Premiere are top of the line with several video and sound tracks for overlays and special effects, but can have a steep learning curve. Check out YouTube videos on how to use them

3. In your video editor, splice all the bits of motion picture you want to use and arrange them on the video track. It’s kind of obvious when you see it.

4. Add music to your music track.

5. Tweak how your videos so they cut and flow in time to the music. This is where Movie Maker starts to show its faults and you’ll wish you had Adobe CS Premiere.

6. Output to a single video file. Yay!

Windows media player! That's how I started too! I only made a few and they're not great effects wise, but they were soooooo fun to make! It's like you feel compelled to create. Just go ahead and grab something cheap and easy to use and get started! I have to warn you though, ripping footage takes up a lot of space even when you use downloads from the web of subs etc. It's so fun though, good luck!

Whoops, I should say WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER

So easy to get confused

Ah you are right.

If you're so inspired, why not give it a try and go looking for tutorials? The internet is full of help on this sort of stuff. Who knows, you might find that vidding is really something you love, and the editing skills might come in handy in your job field.

I don't know how to many fanvids either; just want to support your great idea about Anthy/Utena, that's all.
