She's the most important feminist comic since Tina Fey. I love her, and I genuinely want her to be president.

She's a rapist who publicly shamed her victim for being too drunk and unmanly to pleasure her and that this was a traumatic experience for her. That's not a feminist.

at the point where you stop caring about what people do, and only care about which ideological category they line up in, you are a shitty person who is almost inevitably going to end up endorsing and apologizing for shitty stuff

I agree that if the story as it was reported is true, then she did something shitty, but that does not discount her as a feminist.

it doesn't discount her as a feminist, no. people are complex and her feminist insticts are largely correct regardless of anything else she's done. and that's really good.

however, even taking the best case scenario that it was just a joke, she told a straight-up rape joke, and not just a rape joke but the worst kind of rape joke, the kind of rape joke that asks you to sympathize with the perpetrator and that makes the victim the punchline of the joke. and ultimately, i think that you think that rape jokes like that are either okay, or they aren't. and if you think that rape jokes like that aren't okay, i don't see any possible defense that you can use for this specific joke.

obviously if it wasn't a joke it's even worse.

yes, people are complicated, and that's okay. but that doesn't alter the fact that, in this specific instance, the complication is insanely fucking shitty.
