These are people who think a show about a boy is meant exclusively for girls and should not be watched by boys. Logic has no place here.

I've never actually seen any SU fan say that though.
Even the more out-there crazy ones.

I have.

I just love this trend of "my personal anecdote negates everyone else's" that's been going on here.

And by love I mean I want it to die in a fucking fire.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean TBF by that standard every post in this subthread is basically useless

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't invalidating or negating her comment, calm down dude.
I was simply stating my opinion and confusion because I had never heard that before.

If you can't handle that, maybe you shouldn't be on here.

When someone generalizes an entire fandom with a behavior that I have never seen in that fandom, it's pretty safe to say it's the other person who's using a personal anecdote, I.E. "I heard one person in the fandom say boys aren't allowed to watch the show, therefore that's what the whole fandom says."

Oh and don't get me wrong, I'm not stanning for the fandom. I have my own load of issues with it. That, however, is not one of them.

DA

I thought feo was referring to the puritanical fans, not "all of Steven Universe fandom"

As in, "the(se) puritanical fans are also the ones saying this is a show for women," not "all of Steven Universe fandom says this"

I wasn't intending to generalize the fandom. I was intending to generalize the people in the fandom who think writing about sex is awful and nobody should write about sex*. By and large, I would assume the people who're okay with boys watching the show aren't flat out sex-is-evil, are they?

* There's also "Don't write about sex where kids might see it!", but that's an entirely separate issue that hits on some reasonable concerns.

Basically. It's hilarious because both commenters are doing the same juvenile thing, the original one it's more obnoxious about it.

I have and I'm not even in SU fandom, but several people I follow on tumblr are.

And that's after I blacklisted the show (as well as other The Cartoons that my dash obsesses over.)

*tips fedora*

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
don't you have anything better to do?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
It's the only thing ayrt has left to do in life, I'm sure it's not their fault that they have nothing else to do but drive an old meme into the dust.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
I remember seeing backlash against the "Gemtlemen" joke with someone screaming that Steven Universe belongs to female and NB people.

So yeah. It's there.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Even on Tumblr I've never heard anyone say that. I've heard a lot of people say they love that boys watch it because boys need shows that teach them girls and women are people they can look up to and relate to.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah this. Most of the feminist blogs I follow even encourage boys to watch it.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-13 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I can believe some people might have said that, but this commenters seem to be overreacting. In fact, I'm not even in the fandom, but on my dash people are actually glad boys have a role model like Steven.
(Hey, I can use anecdotes too... qualitative and quantitave studies and all that)

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like brony logic. I will happily stay away from this show and watch old Johnny Bravo reruns instead.

TBF, this is NOT a show where the fandom controls the creators. They've gone their separate ways at this point, sometimes angrily.
