These are people who think a show about a boy is meant exclusively for girls and should not be watched by boys. Logic has no place here.

I've never actually seen any SU fan say that though.
Even the more out-there crazy ones.

Even on Tumblr I've never heard anyone say that. I've heard a lot of people say they love that boys watch it because boys need shows that teach them girls and women are people they can look up to and relate to.

Sounds like brony logic. I will happily stay away from this show and watch old Johnny Bravo reruns instead.

Sooo...by your logic steven and connie were having sex too when they fused?
Because, um ew.
They're like, 12.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's different, though. The Connie/Steven fusion dance wasn't sexualized the way the Garnet/Amethyst one was.

Fusion dances being ambiguously sexy is kinda off-putting to me because a lot of the time there's been a character present who's not cool with either doing it or seeing it. It makes me uncomfortable. If your kids' cartoon has a theme of sexuality in it at least make it happy and consensual for everyone.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Consent is a big a theme of the show though, when it's non consentual that's been called out.

"Fusion is a choice."
"It's Fusion Sapphire what could be more personal to us than that?"

It kinda falls apart on some level though, cause very rarely is romantic intimacy or sex a valid battlefield tactic.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I love this show but Amethyst's design creeps me the fuck out.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
i hate her mouth

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
The designs annoy me.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I've been wanting to ask for a while, does anyone know (or have) kids that actually watch this show? Whenever I read anything about it or watch an episode, it seems so designed for adult fans/~fandom in general and so focused on relationship themes that I can't imagine children enjoying it.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I went to a panel at a con and a lot of the fans looked like Tweens/teens age. Other than that yeah, online it seems like a lot of adult fans are getting into it.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have any kids, but here's a related question.

Since when do small children get together online to discuss SU? I mean without their older relatives or guardians or babysitters looking over their shoulders or something. Whenever you read an article about SU, it's probably written by someone over the age of 12, I guess. Same probably goes for blogs and websites. Also, small children don't have the wherewithal to afford going to cons on their own. I think this might skew some people's view of the youngest possible SU viewing demographic.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
my coworker doesn't watch SU, but she knows a little about it because her kids (5 and 7) watch it religiously.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
My ten year old daughter watches the show. She enjoys it, though she does find some episodes a bit weird.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
i know several kids who watch it. the reason adult fans seem more prominent is because adults are the ones who create fandom. regardless of what certain fans say, fandom (in general and su fandom in particular) isn't meant for kids.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
How people would have reacted to SU porn years ago: GDI Internet! You did it again!

How some people reacts to SU porn now: SU PORN? CAN'T SOMEONE THINK ON MY FEELS CHILDREN? *triggered*

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 01:34 am (UTC)(link)

Someone from the Crewniverse (don´t remember who), was asked on Twitter if fusion meant sex. He said fusion means a relationship between the people involved.

Honestly I think the Crewniverse are not being honest since some of those dances are pretty sexy. Like the whole "gem´s don´t have gender" thing is a pretense to write lots of lesbians without censorship.

I like SU a lot, but the whole gem drama is tiresome. Perl´s obsession with Rose feels out of place in a children´s cartoon. Sometimes I feel Sugar wanted something more aimed at teens and adults, but CN executives only would green lit SU if it was a children´s show, so she had to tone down some of his ideas and cover the rest with subtext and pretense.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
So you're saying children's cartoons can't ever be dark or have any complex themes?
:/

I'm sorry but I'm laughing at the fact that some idiot fan was so up their own ass about SU that they thought someone making a children's show would say publicly that they had showed "sex" on screen– even if that was the intended analog. like, really? I'm pretty sure s/he enjoys having a job. this is no better than bronies who talk about pony porn to voice actresses.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
They're the same fans who will say "no porn ever" then be like "Jasper LITERALLY RAPED LAPIS" because apparently fusion = sex? Some of the fusion dances are provocative and fusion seems to be intimate in an emotional way, but there is nothing imo that actually indicates that fusion is the gem form of sex, considering its also a BATTLE STRATEGY.

Reading this, all I can think is.

NEVER GO BACK AND WATCH YOUR CHILDHOOD CARTOONS.

Just don't. Keep your sweet sweet innocence. Of course the fans claim that stuff went over kids heads, but you were clever and would have caught it.

Screw you guys, I love the sexy fusion dances, I love the designs, I love the characters, I love the moments of emotional realism, I love the drama, I love love love all of it.
