...you do realize that the Fantastic Four are Marvel characters, right?

I'm not disagreeing with the rest of your secret, but I hope your comment in the lower left corner is just unclear, because the FF are Marvel. They're not MCU, but they're Marvel characters. This isn't a bitter-DC-fans thing, because they're sure as hell not DC.

A bit off topic, but I think it's kind of funny that a lot of the issues with the latest movie are due to it trying to be gritty and dark like the DC films. It would have been better (and made more sense) for them to go the MCU route.

Yes, but being bankrolled by Fox studios and directed by a man who was trying to get his own franchise to happen means the movie is using a Marvel name for an almost totally non-marvel event.

JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE MARVEL CHARACTERS DOESN'T MEAN IT'S ACCURATE TO CALL IT A MARVEL MOVIE

(Am I doing this right?)

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
To be clear, lest this start another brushfire, I don't have any animus against the guy, nor do I care about the argument

I just think it's funny

I know you're making fun of me but this is actually correct. Which is the proper way to make fun of me.

Exactly. I never thought anyone would do it right until I saw this.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is doing it wrong.

They mean Marvel as in 'Marvel Studios'. Unlike this movie which was made by FOX.

Really? Then that complaint doesn't make a lick of sense, because comic fans' rivalries and loyalties don't revolve at all about studio A vs studio B, it's all about the comic companies/universes, DC vs Marvel.

Re: ...you do realize that the Fantastic Four are Marvel characters, right?

Marvel Studios are a wholly owned subsidiary or Marvel Comics (which is in turn wholly owned by Disney, but lets not go down that route). If Marvel Studios make a movie then it is because Marvel Comics have sanctioned and signed off on the scripts (see also: Edgar Wright's Ant Man departure).

Actually there are tons of people who think all non-MCU Marvel films are shit. I'm one of them.

NA

...comic fans' rivalries and loyalties don't revolve at all about studio A vs studio B Actually, in this case they do. There have been fans who are very vocal about Fox (Fantastic Four and X-Men) and Sony (Spider-Man) giving the rights back to Marvel. And part of the reason is the deals - the other studios have to release a film within a set period of time or they lose the rights, which seems to have led to a plethora of reboots and/or underdeveloped stories/characters. They are less vocal about X-Men right now, but, after X3, wow. But there are still the complaints about the mutants not existing in the MCU and no X-Men crossover (the Spider-Man crossover planned for CA3 took a lot of negotiation).

They do in this case, and in the case of X-Men, because Fox making them means that the FF (including Namor!) and X-Men (and mutant-associated characters in general) can't be in the MCU. Which makes me cranky. This used to be the case for Sony as well, but they made a deal over Spider-Man.

I thought yet another company had the Namor rights. Not Fox, not Sony, not Disney, not attached to FF.

Universal.

Not anymore. But apparently there are still pre-existing contract issues to be worked out.
