Sorry, anon, but what I've seen so far looks pretty great.

Ugh. I hate elitist fans who want to keep other fans out of the fandom. You don't own the fandom. Movie fans are allowed to join.

I think in this case it's less about movie fans vs comic fans and more about the kind of fans that psychopathic characters tend to attract.

That's not what I got from the secret. The secret sounded like every other fan in every fandom I've ever been with that has an adaption or changes and where certain fans like to consider themselves "real" fans and exclude others.

Did you miss the part where OP says that this fandom already has enough obnoxious people? Implying that the problem is not movie fans per se, but Deadpool fans in general?

If we were talking about any other fandom I would agree with you, but in this case you REALLY have to consider what the bulk of hardcore Deadpool fans are like to begin with. (Hint: It's more than a little scary.)

I just...don't get this mentality.

If you love a character, why would you dislike seeing him in a film (if done well, but the trailer is promising) and why would you dislike having new fans to interact with?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-13 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair to the secret maker, Deadpool has some amazingly obnoxious fans. My secret revenge fantasy is that the studio will only release the PG-13 version of the movie, just so we can all feast on the delicious tears of the fans who cream themselves over the red band trailer and how the movie is obviously more awesome than anything in the MCU could ever be because DISNEY ~*~wouldn't have the guts~*~ to show violence and swearing.

I really need to stop reading youtube comments.

Yeah, you probably do.

"I liked Deadpool before it was cool!" screamed hipster anon and glared at the new arrivals.
A few of the newbies hanged their heads in shame and tried to cover up their fan-shirts, but it was too late - for hipster anon had seen what cannot be unseen.
Hundreds of t-shirts... And all of them depicted the handsome Deadpool.

"You don't deserve to wear those," he hissed. "None of you are worthy!"

The newbies started sobbing, but removed their shirts reluctantly before handing them to hipster anon.

Hipster anon felt immense relief and satisfaction. But that didn't last, because not long after, he died of sad loneliness. Nobody came to his funeral. Not even the handsome Deadpool.

A lonely, glistening tear rolled down hipster anon's cold, dead cheek.

Sounds like somebody's butthurt. Would you like some cheese to go with your whine?

Sure new blood could mean bad things for your fandom, but it could also mean good. Even if the movie attracts some annoying fans, I'm sure it'll attract some talented ones who might even grow to love the comics too. No fandom is ever going to have a perfect fanbase, but I don't see why that means it shouldn't grow.

At this point I think the movie will be entertaining as hell, though maybe not as spectacular as people are hoping. That would be enough for me, tbh. I want it to do well because it's something different, Deadpool is a cool character with lots of potential and Reynolds is extremely passionate about the character...I really want him to succeed.

I dunno, it looks like it could be fun and frankly so long as it isn't Fantastic 4 levels of boring it'll do fine I reckon.

The thing I can see tanking it would be the internet over-hyping it to an insane degree and it ending up with expectations that it can't meet. But we'll see how that goes.

It stars Ryan Reynolds

(Anonymous) 2015-08-14 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Trust me it'll bomb. Nobody wants to see anything with his name attached to it.

WHo?

I do!

(Anonymous) 2015-08-14 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that Deadpool fans are obnoxious.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-14 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
I see what you did there.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-14 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
if it's good i want it to do well, if it's bad then i want it to bomb, but the trailer looked ace, so i think it'll do great

(Anonymous) 2015-08-14 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Most of the people replying in the thread have no idea what "obnoxious" Deadpool fans are

I know that I don't! I must hang out in a different area of the Deadpool fandom than most, because most I've come across are pretty cool cats.

I don't think the Deadpool fanboys can get much more annoying than they already are, Anon.

I think the movie looks like a ton of fun.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
But... Deadpool HIMSELF is painfully obnoxious. That's kind of the entire point, or am I missing something?
