Confession: Conspiracy theories you maybe kinda sorta believe... a little bit?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I sort of maybe believe that UFOs are real, in the sense that they're top secret experimental aircraft developed by either U.S. military or other countries. People spot them when they're doing test flights and then of course the military can't tell us what they are or admit they even exist.

What's your favorite weird conspiracy theory that you think might have a grain of truth in it?

Re: Confession: Conspiracy theories you maybe kinda sorta believe... a little bit?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Not technically a conspiracy theory, but I don't find the standard narrative about the JFK assassination compelling.

It's not a conspiracy theory because I don't believe in any of the other theories, either, really. I don't think we'll ever be able to know what really happened. Just a fucked-up mystery.

Obama isn't really an American.

His true name is Barry Seamus O'Bama. The false middle name "Hussein" is a clever ruse concocted to keep the unwashed masses from realizing the truth. A red herring, if you will.

The Irish menace is real.

So, you're afraid of Irish presidents and consider them a serious threat

I guess we finally solved the JFK assassination after all

The only one I have -- because I'm allergic to stuff like "omg chemtrails" or "omg FEMA camps" or other Deus Ex plot bait -- is that I believe Nintendo is trying to purposely destroy Metroid so fans will stop asking for it because Metroid is more popular in the US than Japan and businesses in Japan are still chock full of institutionalized racism and xenophobia.

I'm going to tip my first fedora here.

*Tips fedora*

There goes my fed-cherry, but you truly deserved it. This was a special comment and I feel my first time was worth it.

Could be. The same effect really ruined any chances DMC4 had of being good. DMC3 was the first installment of the series that sold far better in overseas territories than in Japan, and instead of going "yay! foreign fans like us" like sane companies *cough*From Software*cough* Capcom went "oh no we're losing all of our Japanese fans!" and altered what was originally going to be a Vergil-centric game (the most popular character among Western fans by a landslide, but not so much in Japan) they inserted a brand new Generic Angsty Pretty Boy (Nero) to appeal more to Japanese fans, and his UBER kawaii girlfriend, who... just doesn't fit the tone of the series, at all.

Surprise, it was shit. At least, the Nero half. The Dante half was pretty fun. So half a game was shit out of xenophobic panic.

But #notalljapanesecompaies - when Demon's Souls did much better overseas than in Japan (against expectations - white people just like CoD, amirite?), From just fucking rolled with it and specifically sought foreign input for Dark Souls. And it was, frankly, one of the best games ever made, so..... ....?

Yeah...I actually wouldn't be surprised. I mean I think even Nintendo wants to capitalize off of their series for money, no matter where it comes from, but Japan and Korea are notoriously bad at considering their international gaming market, more than other countries.

Also I don't understand the fedora thing, or when and how it is implemented. Not a fan, not a hater, just confused.

I still think there was something fishy about Marilyn Monroe's death. Maybe it was simply her employees not wanting to admit to messing with a possible crime scene (flipping her body, perhaps) or not calling in sooner. For most of the theories about her death I've read and seen sensible disprovals. So I'm inclined to think she did probably self-OD. I just don't quite feel right dismissing the murder theory completely.

It's sad that we'll never know. It was definitely odd.

I don't know about a conspiracy, but to this day I don't believe we know everything about JFK's death.

Maybe it was becaue he was such an extraodinary male, I just struggle to believe he had such an ordinary death, but it just feels like there has to be more to it than "Psycho with a gun from a window kills more important ruler in the world"

SA

I don't mean to seem like I'm glorifying him. He was obviously a monster in his personal life and I truly believe what's left of his soul is being raped by Hitler in hell right now, but even I can admit the good he accomplished was greater than any other male in the world at the time. Horrible waste of a human body but he did accomplish some genuinely good things for humanity.

I believe that the government at least hand a hand in MLK Jr.'s death. But then again, considering that a civil court found that there was enough evidence to award the family damages, this one is kind of mostly confirmed.

I usually hate conspiracy theories, though. This is kind of the level of evidence I need to believe something.

The guy who was locked into a bag? Yeah, there were so many errors made in that case, whether accidental or deliberate, I agree with you :(

The nuclear test coverups were very real and very depressing. :(

The Harold Holt submarine thing always makes me lol. Sorry Harold! I'm pretty sure someone would have noticed a submarine randomly surfacing and taking our PM.

Holt’s widow, Zara, was highly skeptical saying, “Harry? Chinese submarine? He didn’t even like Chinese cooking.”

lol
