If someone said "If I could live in any show, I would definitely pick Teen Wolf, because I think vampires are totally awesome!" would you deduct TRU FAN points?

If someone said "My favorite book series? Probably Harry Potter. Robert Jordan just really brought those characters to life." would you deduct TRU FAN points?

If someone said "My favorite U.S. President is probably Ben Franklin." would you lower your estimation of their opinion on politics?

If someone said "The most important part of Christianity, to me, is the First Commandment: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." would you question their knowledge of Christianity?

Mor broadly, is there literally anything someone can do that will make you think they're faking an interest in something? Do you have ANY critical standards at all?

People would maybe agree if you were talking about not respecting Felicia Day's knowledge. The problem is that you're not just saying that, you have this whole narrative about her consciously faking her interest in things.

Again, this was not a quiz on classic comedy. This was "Pick literally any topic to talk about." And she makes confident statements on a topic of her own choice that are just wildly, crazily, 101-level wrong. How does that NOT suggest a faked interest? As OP said, any other explanation would be welcome.

a) it was a joke
b) it was a slip of the tongue

I am willing to consider that it may have been faked interest - faked interest in pies in faces, the Stooges and the Marx Brothers.

Her real interests are elsewhere, like maybe modern video games.

I'm not sure how we got to being interested in something to being knowledgable about US politics (who the fuck is Ben Frank? says the Aussie) and religion, but okay.

Well as an Aussie, I do know Benjamin Franklin is the guy famous for putting a key on a kite and flying it in a lightening storm... but that is about all.

LMAO I realised it afterwards, but it's still not something I would consider as being absolutely necessary to know, you know? But this post/thread has lost me several times as it is.

I thought Benjamin Franklin was some kind of conductor...like for music?

The most important things to know about Benjamin Franklin:

a) dude got so much tail for his day
b) he wanted the national bird of the USA to be the turkey
c) he's responsible for the foundation of the fire safety codes used in buildings to this day

Go forth with these random facts.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-16 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
He has a theme song:

My critical standard is probably something like "at least know what you're doing" and "don't be an arse".

If someone named Ben Franklin as their favorite U.S. President, I'd question their knowledge of political history.

I wouldn't, however, question their interest in video games.
