Recently got into the Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier fandom and there's a popular, EXTREMELY long fic that I can't help but find utterly morally repugnant.

I'm not gonna harass anyone that likes that fic because it's just fic and god knows I enjoy some fucked up stuff.

It just really bothers me because it's not even PWP; quite the opposite - it seems like the fic wants us to buy that they're in love and support it and I just…can't. So I sit in my corner and quietly hate it.

I haven't been in X-Men fandom in a long time but there were a couple of (longer) Erik/Charles fics I couldn't stand. Like, in one of them Erik was such scum of the Earth that I couldn't even see why I was supposed to ship them together. And yes, I am into some fucked up pairings as well, but something about the way they were written together just made me go, "THIS IS NOT OKAY". I kept waiting for things to get better, but they never did.

(Don't ask me for the link or the name because it's been years and my memory is not that good.)

Ugh, Twist and Shout (that Destiel fic). I don't care how many times it's been complained about on here before; it's not enough, dammit. Even the summary is pretentious and annoying (also, "Though the two both voice their relationship is one where saying goodbye is never a real truth" just doesn't even make sense to me. The actual fic wasn't much better)

I know that it's probably become passé at this point to hate on Alone on the Water (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6914974/1/Alone-On-the-Water) but idec. It's still hilariously melodramatic

i was coming here just to post this.

not even in Sherlock fandom anymore (i jumped ship on that show after S2), but yeah... looking at the general quality of the rest of the fic now, i'm not really surprised that's what they consider good.

I don't feel I can name names. Also, "hate" seems strong.

I will say I've read fics that were cliche, if mainly because they were written before those fic tropes were common. So they were impossible to get through because it was so predictable.

I don't want to link because I'll be torn to shreds by a popular writer's followers, but there's a 10ish chapter fic that is basically someone typing out all of the canon dialogue and descriptions of each scene, and they've only added maybe 5% original content. That's being generous.

Everyone is crazy about it though. Like "this should be canon" and stuff like that.

Most of the popular fics in the Shingeki fandom, tbh. A lot of them are AUs, which is not my cup of tea, and many of them have lousy characterization and little to no plot.

Oh, and there's that fic Audacity which is stupidly popular and I can't stand. I didn't like the characterization, didn't like the plot, it fetishized Levi way too much also, imo. Wow, I'd forgotten how much I dislike that fic. You can tell I've been staying away from the eruri tags.

It's just awful. I tried to read it because everyone seemed to love it, but it's awful. The characters are basically cardboard cutouts with catchphrases, including actual canon characters. Bear in mind that it's difficult to have characters less awful and one-dimensional than the ones in Glee, but somehow, they did it. It also seems as though they went on TV Tropes and typed in stuff like "twins" and "eVil gay man boyfriend stealer" and just went with it.

The plots are terrible and repetitive. How many times can a character discover another character is as good at singing as a Whitney Houston/God hybrid? How many boyfriends will be stolen? Will the twins be WACKY again? Oh no, is someone trying to break up Kurt and Blaine again??? All relationships are unstable, guys!

It's like a fanfic someone wrote so they could prove that fanfic is written by stupid 12-year-old girls. I hate this fanfic. Fuck you. Cock Peen Coulter.

Soul Bros, a Sollux x Karkat fanfic. I mostly hate it because it got so popular and gets recommended as starter fic for the pairing.

But at best it's mediocre original fiction. The characters have only the slightest resemblance and the dynamic is nothing like it is in canon. It was just a huge fic that got published early when the fandom and the canon were still young.

Iron Man Yes, Tony Stark, Not Recommended.

I'm not a fan of this fanfic at all. I guess I can see why people would like it. However, I don't see adults acting this way, and especially not adults like Natasha and Steve. Not even Tony, for that matter - he's not that desperate for approval. The flagellation from everyone is very annoying and indulgent as well. Not a fan at all.

There is one crossover fic which features my favourite character in his pre-canon days but dear Lord, it is melodramatic dreck of the worst kind. The kind that features horrific prison rape for no other reason than cheap angst. And then threatens even more horrific prison rape to up the stakes.

But from the hits, kudos and bookmarks I seem to be the only one who hates this fic. If I hadn't read the author's other works I'd think they got off on writing the horrific things that were done to the woobie character of the fic. I couldn't even finish the fic, it was so awful.

That Pacific Rim/Haikyuu!! AU - I forgot the title.
I actually liked it in the beginning but then it started getting weird. The author started writing the characters increasingly OOC and I very much disagreed with a lot of her ... character interpretations. Also, she began shoehorning all those shiny gender labels into the fic - and, which is my pet peeve, she mostly used them on the stereotypically more "feminine and meek" characters. Which is by now just pissing me off.

I enjoyed it enough to read it all the way through, but I feel like George Weasley and the Computational Error wastes a lot of its potential by rushing constantly. There's this one scene where a character who's about to abandon his old life speaks to the woman he might have married, and it's supposed to be a major turning point for him, and they barely even talk before the author ends the scene and does something else.

There's also this really popular My Little Pony fic where Applejack becomes a werewolf (I forget the title.) It's pretty funny, but the grammar is terrible and the phrasing is all over the place, and it gets more and more convoluted the farther it goes. It actually became difficult for me to understand because the words simply weren't in an order that made sense.

One more MLP fic for luck: Think Pink; or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Pinkie. Twilight tries to read Pinkie's mind and accidentally writes over her own personality, becoming a Twilight-Pinkie mix with the latter's playfulness and the former's neuroses and tendency towards extreme solutions. Pinkie realizes she's much happier as Twilight-Pinkie than as Twilight and convinces her not to change back. Then Twilight-Pinkie realizes how unhappy everyone around her is, and she starts the world's pinkest apocalypse. I think a lot of people upvoted for the premise rather than the dull-as-dishwater writing.

I talk about this fic a lot but I am now ready to say what it is! It's called "Where We Learn" and it's Bioshock Infinite. Booker is fantastic in bed, up until he decides to unleash his penis. Then he becomes an uncontrollable Evil Sex Monster. He brutally fucks Elizabeth up the ass with no prep to where there is blood just pouring out of her, running down her legs, and the reason he does this is because he's afraid of cumming in vaginas (plus, Evil Sex Monster). She is okay with this. The explanation is that she's so innocent and sheltered, she just doesn't know what sex is supposed to be like. She has sex with him again, like, 15 minutes later, DESPITE HER ASS BEING TORN TO SHREDS.

What's worse is the author took another fic of hers and stuck this one onto it. The second chapter of the other fic is the first chapter of this one. Why? Why would you do that?

Anyway, for some reason, the shippers in fandom think this fic is like the best, hottest thing ever. IDEK.
