They're not stupid. They're just linked to a specific context.

They are stupid when taken as the absolute fact. They can't fathom race relations are different outside of the US.

Which is ironic because that's ethnocentrism.

And when frequently taken out of their very narrow context they're stupid as fuck. And a little stupid as fuck in context too.

Yeah only a little, around the implied definition of POC - where do your white minorities fall in? My first thought was...argh I can't remember the group name, someone was calling them white - the fellas in Alaska?? Sorry my mobile data is limiting me right now, do you know what their group called? Where sure they may look "white" but they're not the white-white that is the majority privileged group?

Different names for different subgroups, but I think you're referring to the Eskimo / Inuit / Aleut-type groups up there in Alaska.

And I'm not directly familiar with Alaskan society, but in general the thing to keep in mind is that "white" is very much a moving target and references things other than just skin tone - there was a non-trivial period when a lot of people wouldn't have considered Irish or Italians white.

I was reluctant to mention the Irish because anti-Irish anon might pop up 0-0 also where do Greek people fall into this currently?

Yeah it is very much a moving milestone :/

I'm reminded of the Sami people in Norway/Sweden/Finland. I'm sure they were very surprised to learn from SJWs that that their "original" skin color* was "bred out" of them and that the racism against them is all about being PoC and not any of the other issues the Sami have talked about for all these years.

*Tanning is impossible for white people, especially the ones who spends large amounts of time outside! And we'll ignore all the Sami who lived as Norwegians/Swedes/Finns even before the supposed out-breeding of skin color.

I did not know that! I will go read up on it, it'll probably be helpful to be able to find a similar group of people to talk about (to Aussie history) when we do compare.

You know America's really big and the third most populous country in the world, right? The context isn't narrow. That's just the way it is.

And lmao, it sounds like you think your country's racial constructs make more sense than ours even out of your country's context. Who's ethnocentric now?

Re: Unpopular Opinions

NA What the hell is THIS defensiveness?

Okay, the US is like 5% of the world's population, if we're going to be talking races and population representation. You know, all those invisible brown people?

To act like something specific to ONE country is universal (especially when those from other countries are saying "no, it's not like that here") is pretty arrogant.

Nnnnot seeing anyone saying "your country's racial constructs make more sense than ours" in any context.

I'm not talking about pure population numbers? The American context is but one of so so many but then is frequently used to analyse other countries. This can be interesting sometime when they acknowledge its an outsiders viewpoint and other times when they ignore that, it is not.

My countries racial context make sense in the context of my country. It'd be stupid to apply it to another country except in a comparative outsiders view. Also sometimes my country is stupid too, even in context.
