I absolutely hate the head canon of hobbits being made or being associated with Yavanna.

Exactly!

(It's mostly in the dwarf/Bilbo camp. They want to make a parallel between the dwarves being made by Aule and the hobbits being made by Aule's wife Yavanna. It drives me crazy.)

Yes. Ents are Yavanna's things (not created by her, but created to protect her things at her request).

It isn't like hobbits are unique in loving nature anyway. Elves are just as nature loving.

And Hobbits are offshoots of men who don't even turn up until much later in history.

It is, for me, one of those things I liked at first, but got tired of because everyone grabbed onto it.
