Nationalism is really big among male otaku isn't it? It seems natural, if disturbing, that anime would capitalize on that. I know I've felt like it's grown more prominent in anime in recent years, though that could be me just becoming more aware of its presence.

(Apparently Irregular at Magic High was just horribly Japanese nationalistic, though I haven't seen it to confirm. Heard it was awful so....)

I didn't think it was all that common. Zipang, High School of the Dead . . . Basically the same kind of stuff American nationalists write.

Eh I didn't mean to imply that this was something exclusive to Japan. Nationalism is a problem in a ton of countries.

But I do think it's pretty common in anime, albeit not usually as... extremely presented as it is in some of the above given examples.

Irregular at Magic High was... nationalistic is an understatement. Awful is also an understatement. Best example of a trainwreck I ever saw in my life - I kept watching because I thought it couldn't possibly get worse, but it kept getting worse.

I don't know if it's just prevalent, or if it's just becoming more overt than it used to be. There's some older anime that's fairly nationalistic, but hid it a little better, I think.

By closing my eyes and going la-la-laaaa at those bits ugh. <-- Actually, not sarcastic. It's so predictable you know when it's gonna happen so it's easy to avoid.

How it gets worse... oh god where do I begin. Glorifies violence, vilifies pacifism, classist, racist, incredibly victim-blamey, and all of this is presented as completely normal - not even just normal, but desirable. Also the MC is basically Jesus. I'm not even joking. He gets fatally injured and basically just... reboots and comes back to life. Also he has the power to bring other people back to life but obviously only the people on the right side (aka his side) and everyone else gets terminated with extreme prejudice.

I was basically hatewatching it after the first ep, but the depths to which it sank astonished even me. @__@
