I didn't think it was all that common. Zipang, High School of the Dead . . . Basically the same kind of stuff American nationalists write.

Eh I didn't mean to imply that this was something exclusive to Japan. Nationalism is a problem in a ton of countries.

But I do think it's pretty common in anime, albeit not usually as... extremely presented as it is in some of the above given examples.
