For the most part, no. There have been a couple of times I've done it (maybe three; I'm not kidding when I say a couple).

One was with Hawaii 5-0! I remember hearing that a lot of McShep fans had gotten into Steve/Danny, so I watched some fanvids, was intrigued and ended up reading some fic.

Shortly after that I binged watched the show. (I think that was when the show was in it's second season.) Was not disappointed, though I enjoyed the fic so much more once I had actually seen the show. lol.

I think the only other times I've done it was when it was rec'd to me or the fic was by an author I adored.
