Re: Do you read fic for fandoms you aren't part of?
Gundam Wing, X-Men (comicverse), Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, half of the Final Fantasy games, Game of Thrones,, Merlin, Mass Effect. - These ones I have never actually got into the canon material.
Final Fantasy and Mass Effect are special cases as I got interest in them due to them being related to another game - Final Fantasy I played and completed FF7 and FF8, played around half of FF4, and bits of 3, 10, 10-2, 12, DoC, KH and KH2, while Mass Effect is a sibling game to Dragon Age due to both being Bioware.
While HP was once my major fandom back in 2003, I currently read fic in it without being active in the fandom.
I might also incidental read a fic here and a fic there based on the latest movies which have come through and I've seen the movies, like I read a little in X-Men around when the first and second movies came out, I've read a bit of Frozen, I have only ever read Pacific Rim crossovers that have imprinted the concept on another fandom (a couple of Middle Earth Fights Kaiju with Jaegers fics).
In a similar case, when I was in SPN I had a fondness for crossovers that crossed with police procedural TV shows, though often they were shows my Mum watches, so I kinda know them about from half-listening to them - shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds.
