Proving that one doesn't have to be an SJW to be an annoyingly pretentious special snowlake:

They didn't have it in the middle ages, and they got along just fine!

Well, except for the much-higher chance of dying young of a disease that could be cured or prevented today. Not that that likely has much to do with double glazing.

I'm not totally sure what double glazing is? Something about windows, according to Google, but they didn't really have a clear explanation.

nayrt I think double glazing is what cold countries do to windows to insulate them better. I'm guessing this dude likes being cold in front of crackling fires in his castle.

It's where you make a window by layering two panes of glass together with a little gap in between. Heat doesn't get through as easily. I guess he likes old-looking windows more tgan energy efficiency or comfort. There are probably historical-looking windows availabe that are energy efficient.

He also had a problem with someone putting bathrooms and a kitchen in a church. It's "hideous" and can't you just go somewhere else after the service?

I think his ideal for society is a bunch of people standing around in church freezing their asses off and needing to pee but just putting up with it because God.

That... is hilarious to me. I grew up going to church. All the churches I went to had auxiliary buildings with a kitchen, usually attached to a hall where lunches get held. And why the fuck would it be wrong to have a bathroom? Do they want people pissing in the aisles of the church?

But then my church dates from the 1800s, maybe they'd consider it too modern?

Oh, I think he was mad that it was actually *in* the church, not in an auxiliary building.

Though more modern church buildings can have the "auxilery" section as part of the same building, like the main hall for services at the front, rooms for classes (Sabbath School, Sunday School) behind that, one of the larger ones doubling as a meeting hall, with a kitchen to the side of that.

I know the church I spent to most time in (between ages 9 and 19) had the kitchen attached to the Youth room (ages 16-30). That room was also where lunches, Pathfinder meetings and Saturday night socials were held. In fact I believe that was the old church with the building in front of it being a newer addition, so the Youth hall was probably where main services were held, which means someone built the main hall with a kitchen attached, deliberately. I don't recall how old that building was though, probably late 1800s, early 1900s.

Given that bio though, they're British and used to very old churches? Churches older than both my denomination, and my nation? I can understand churches so old the builders didn't consider adding things like a kitchen and internal bathrooms, but I don't understand why adding them is so bad, as long as it doesn't damage a protected historic structure.

Is it uncommon for the Church of England to have potluck lunches?

Maybe it's something where cheap manufacturing coincided with double-glazed windows' popularity, so you'd see more examples of wonky distortions or reflections with them more often.

Well, to be fair to him (I don't know why I want to be fair to him) this is something that irritates me whenever people complain about their internet being slow, for example. You have the entirety of human knowledge in your fucking pocket. You have an object of such unbelievable power that there are sci fi writers that are still alive today, who in their youth, could never have dreamed of it's existence, or it's eventual use. And you piss and moan about a few extra seconds to see what some tumblr moron thinks about their food? Or that your cat video isn't streaming smoothly? Do you not realise how fucking miraculous this technology is?

Really get's my goat when people piss on about the failings of modern technology, without realising how thoroughly awesome what they have is.
