Re: Men with guns
(Anonymous) 2015-08-28 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)Society values men that "do" things, and using a gun or being violent is "doing" something in the eyes of these guys. Men get told all the time: you have feelings? Do something about them. You have a problem? Fucking do something instead of crying and whining about it. You have ideas or thoughts? What the fuck does that matter unless you're going to do something about them? Shut up and do.
And what is more decisive and action-oriented than something instant and irreversible like using a gun to shoot yourself or other people?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-29 12:32 am (UTC)(link)"At least they had the balls to ___" is a common comment to something otherwise reprehensible. Which is why you also get far more men than women IRL priding themselves on "talking straight" or "being an asshole" because that to them is doing something or taking action instead of being polite in order to avoid a problem.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-29 12:40 am (UTC)(link)This makes me suspect some substantial overlap with the people who still think that the Columbine shooters were bullying victims who had been pushed over the edge.
