The difference is women who are socially awkward do not rape. Neither men nor women are at risk from women who are a little creepy. Men who are creepy do rape. Women are a constant and significant risk from these creeps. That's why women creeps are given less negative treatment.

Pretty sure that social awkwardness is actually an incredibly bad proxy for likeliness to rape

But, you know, I'm sure that's not going to lead to any problems in terms of shaping society's conception of rapists as creepy loser weirdos, or lead anyone to discount the possibility of someone who is well-regarded and socially skilled also being a rapist. I can see no possible harm coming from this, so it's all good.

We definitely should cast all rapists as creepy loser weirdos, but there is nothing wrong with a woman (or even other men) treating every creepy socially weird loser as a potential rapist. The onus is always on the creepy weirdo to adjust their behavior, not for anyone else to tolerate them. The onus is on every man not to rape, of course. Nothing is sexier than consent.

Gonna assume that you skipped a 'not' there?

there is nothing wrong with a woman (or even other men) treating every creepy socially weird loser as a potential rapist

Sure, but to more or less the same as any other man. It would be silly to do otherwise, because - as previously mentioned - creepy weirdness is not actually a good proxy for proclivity to rape.

The onus is always on the creepy weirdo to adjust their behavior, not for anyone else to tolerate them.

Yes, in the sense that creepiness is bad and a bad way of interacting with the world and makes people uncomfortable in and of itself. I don't think that has much to do with your other statements though.

The onus is on every man not to rape, of course. Nothing is sexier than consent.

I agree completely, of course, but again, I don't think it has much to do with the rest of your post.

Dammit. Of all the words to skip over. Yeah, my bad. There should be that crucial "not" there. Sorry. I goofed.

Well, I agree with you generally. However, considering in this case the character in question specifically can't take no for an answer, I actually think this character could be a rapist.

Yeah I was talking more about the general views expressed, not the specific char

They don't rape to the same extent that men rape and are less likely to have rape as their primary goal at any rate. Although most nerd raging socially awkward male nerds would insist that they wouldn't rape anyone, just have sex where the consent was less than explicitly granted and non-coerced, which they claim is not the same thing. 'Cause sex is a man's right and a man without sex isn't a man. Which just goes to show that sometimes the patriarchy screws with men a little too (but not to the same extent that it inflicts damage on women).

"The difference is women who are socially awkward do not rape."

This is an appallingly stupid statement to make. You cannot say for sure that they don't and according to some law systems if they did it wouldn't be 'counted' or more often the male victims won't come forward or be believed because double standards.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-30 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
...I hate to say this, but it is actually physically possible for women to rape. All they have to do is tie their victim up and injure the man's groin area enough to produce an erection. ( Or chafe them till an involuntary erection is achieved. )

(Anonymous) 2015-08-30 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Um... there are a LOT more ways than that for a woman to rape a man. None of the cases I've known have involved the guy being tied up.

But no, let's hear the "If he didn't want it, why didn't he fight back more?" justifications. They sound WAY different than when we hear them about women.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-30 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
It is appallingly stupid for you take the statement that literally. The commenter obviously meant it in a statistical sense, which is accurate. A woman who fails to be on guard about a creepy weirdo male being a potential rapist is statistically in much greater danger than a man who fails to be on guard about a creepy weirdo woman.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-30 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT Eh, I think the way the commenter worded it was unclear, and did sound like an absolutist statement to me. But I agree, statistically women, weirdo or otherwise, hardly rape men at all.

If you think Urkel was raping anyone with his balls flattened into pancakes by those hiked up pants then you're crazy

"The difference is women who are socially awkward do not rape."

Mostly true. They do occasionally engage in other socially unacceptable behavior, like stalking, murdering a perceived rival, poisoning, etc. But probably not as frequently as men rape women, I guess.
