But how CAN you care about characters you don't know exist yet? You watch the show, you start to care. That's basically the point of it. There's many a show that has drawn me in with the allure of a bit of slash, and inevitably I become attached to more than just the two main dudes. And not just characters either; the style and dialogue, set-design and costuming (especially in Hannibal's case) leaves a lasting impression too. So shallowness can sometimes be a good incentive...I guess is my point?
