Yeah, that's shallow alright.

But the show is shit, the story was butchered. Books are better, all three of them.

But if the slash is all you want, well, apparently Fuller teased the shit out of that, therefore ruining Hannibal's character and ruining Will, who was portrayed, imo, better in the Red Dragon film. He wasn't some fucking woobie.

Eh.

I love how different this is from basically all the other reactions.

I guess it's about how you interpret it and/or what you went in expecting?

I was dubious of the show from the get go, but I tried to give it a chance. Reason I said dubious is because I had heard about the copyright issues with Clarice Starling and that immediately set off red flags and alarm bells and since Will was gonna be the front and center main protagonist...yeah.

I read the books backwards when I was 13. I read Hannibal first, loved it, read Silence, loved it and finally understood Clarice's mental state and such in Hannibal, and then I read Red Dragon, which I liked, but I missed Clarice. Then I saw the three films and I love them, even Hannibal, though I still hate the ending.

But I still gave the first season a chance, as far as I could. By episode 7 and seeing the stupid weird "family" thing going on with the girl and all, I just...noped right out.

And then my best friend GUSHING about the show (i fucking introduced her to the franchise in the first place and i feel a bit betrayed at her worship of the show) and how slashy it is (cause that's the only main thing about it, amirite? *rolls eyes*) and telling me about the main plot points and then seeing the reactions to Will's mental state after Hannibal's manipulations and shit and...I hate that show.

It's shit upon the source material (Margot is SO not who she's supposed to be), never once was Clarice even introduced (and no, a Clarice like character does NOT count), the fact that Will is basically the "Clarice" at the end with the fucked up "relationship," my feelings on that show are very negative. The damn show should have been about COMPLETELY different people and never even named Hannibal. As it is NOT Hannibal. At all.

Plus, the fandom is just batshit and I got fucking tired of seeing these cutesy wootsy romantic murder family bullshit on my dash and I had to blacklist it.

B/

Sorry, I just REALLY hate that show and I'm actually glad it was canceled. I just hope Netflix finally nopes out of talks about renewing it cause I DON'T want to see that when I log in. Sure, I have the choice of not watching it, but at this point, I just want it to fucking die.

So you don't like it because it doesn't follow the books?

I mean that's fair I guess. It doesn't mean the show is bad on its own though. Plenty of adaptations diverge from the original works and can, imo, be evaluated on their own merits - though it's true that it will be less likely to appeal to the original fanbase that way.

I can take divergences. I like the HP films, believe it or not. But I HATE how Fuller did this show. Plain and simple. And I HATE how he pandered to the fanbase. It's as bad as what Bryke did for Korra.

Whether or not you like the show, Bryan Fuller at least wasn't pandering for the first season, since it was, predictably, shot before it was aired. And the relationship was very much set up there, though in a slow-burnish stage rather than jumping straight to romance. Definitely you could make the argument that he then proceeded to go too far in the name of the fans, but I think the first season indicates he was already heading in that direction.

And I honestly don't believe that. He did that as soon as the fandom exploded.

I think that claiming that a popular pairing becoming canon is "pandering" with no other nuance is a bit unfair. (Though if you're talking about other stuff with Hannibal then fair enough. I can't agree or disagree, but eh.)

Basically that part in Red Dragon Movie? That Five Minute scene between Will and Hannibal in his office with the Chicken Oysters and the *stab* and the oddly intimate little scene? Expand that to 20 hours.

Unfortunately there's not enough book material to cover it all. A lot of people wanted a straight rehash of the books, which wasn't going to happen.

I feel you so hard about Clarice. I know the show runner tried hard to get the rights to her for the show, but I hate how the end result is that Will took her relationship with Hannibal.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-31 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
DA Honestly, I love Clarice and I am so happy that someone else gets that horrible end instead of her! It really made no sense in the books to me.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-02 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed, I kinda liked it better in the movie when Clarice stood her ground and didn't run off with Hannibal as she did in the book, because I think the fact that she was so good of a person attracted him to her (along with being very smart and awesome). I wish the movie "Hannibal" had better writing and Jodie Foster though.

When I read the book it felt like fanfic.

So so so salty. Get over it, the books aren't even that great, you're just a fangirl.

The books are amazing and the show is a piece of shit, you dumbass Fannibal. Get over it. That's why it got canceled in the first place.
