OP, I'm curious - have you seen it? I ask because I used to think that too, but I'd never actually seen more than half an episode. The Ross/Rachel stuff is stupid, I agree that aspect is overrated, but it's actually a pretty good show imho.

Not OP but I thought that, watched it, and didn't think it was that good

Being not white, it was too typically white for me in style and humor and relatability :(

It was also very New York. Very thirty-something, very trust fund baby (even though not all the characters were) so not relatable for many other reasons beyond skin color.

ayrt

The trust fund baby thing added to the white part to me. You don't see many trust fund babies with that kind of culture and upbringing of many other races, at least in the US. That type of person is overwhelmingly white :(

It wasn't about white people exactly, I can relate to other white people perfectly well, it was that they all were part of a specific subset and culture of people that you mainly only found within the white group, at least at the time it was on air

that's reasonable. saying feel white is just a short-cut for lots of factor that intersect here.

Being white AND from New York, the 'Friends experience' does not fucking speak to and/or from me.

I'm white and I thought it was one of the most boring, overrated shows I've ever seen in my life.

I'm not the OP, but I watched the entire show when it was first on. I found it enjoyable, though I was never ~super into~ it, and I'm completely baffled over the amount of love and nostalgia for it.

Also not the OP, but I've seen it and don't get what the fuss is about. I was a broke, not-white college student in a small town in flyover country, and frankly could not find two shits to give about rich white people in a suspiciously white New York and all their "problems".
