Re: Broken Suspension of Disbelief

Balance

Are the good guys getting away with the same amount of stuff the bad guys are getting away with, or is it glossed over because they're good, while the bad guys get caught and punished?

If you establish the world works in a certain way for everyone, it's easier to swallow because the belief isn't that one group gets away with it, it's that this is a world in which everyone can and does

I would think, then, you would dislike many shows on TV because it seems to me that there's some level of imbalance in favor of the good guys just by the nature of cops-and-robbers-type shows. I feel like on some level we buy into cops being able to do things on the show that we wouldn't want them to do (and/or they can't) in real life. It's part of the genre.

I guess I'm more curious about when you've bought into the premise of the show and then later on your suspension of disbelief is broken.

I do dislike many shows on TV and the cop genre has never interested me. Action movies manage to keep the even ground much better since they don't have to drag on season after season

The same rules apply, sometimes shows or stories start off even, then the balance breaks too badly for me to enjoy watching any more
