When they have a sudden/abrupt twist, especially if it's not even foreshadowed ahead of time or what have you.

Case in point: In the S2 finale of TMNT (the Nickelodeon cartoon), it's revealed that a certain supporting character was *surprise!* a Kraang droid all this time. There was not even the littlest of foreshadowing whatsoever, it just came up arbitrarily out of the blue for the sake of shock value. Never mind the fact the show, up to that point, was absolutely terrible with its female characters -what few there were-, that was what did it for me. They effectively got rid of a female character that could've had some potential. What a load of bullshit.

I stopped watching after that and haven't looked back since. And from what I've heard from most of my friends (most having dropped it after S3), it hasn't gotten any better since.
