Re: Broken Suspension of Disbelief

Actors are all appatently incapable of handling an empty paper or styrofoam coffee cup so it looks like it has actual coffee in it (which it is supposed to) and I always notice this. They don't hold them like they have any weight (which they would, if they were full of liquid). They swing them around like the empty cups they are, when there would be coffee sloshing everywhere if the cups actually held coffee. They never blow on the top and when they mime sipping, they don't pretend to sip carefully, the way you do with a hot beverage. They do better with ceramic mugs and cups, but give an actor a paper cup and all is lost.

Like, a lot of people wait until their coffee has cooled enough to drink without blowing on it. Which means it might be quite cool by the end and easier to gulp that last bit.

Sometimes thee coffee is shown to be fresh, though, and there's still no excuse for everything else.

Often it's cop shows where everyone looks like they're in a hurry on their feet. I feel like they're the types to drink their stimulant fast.
