Toyota Yaris. You can get them in two door and four door, they're very manuverable with excellent gas mileage, cheaper than a Corolla and reasonably roomy for a car that size. Like, three people including you is fine, four people can fit but the engine will struggle on hills. It doesn't have much trunk space if that matters, but the backseats fold down so you can fit more stuff if needed. I haven't had a problem with it on snowy, icy roads, but winters aren't that bad here and our city plows and salts diligently. Splurge for good tires, maybe snow tires if you live someplace where they measure the winter snowfall in feet.
