TBH, I'm kind of floored at the idea of trying to keep an apartment below 70 F in summer--but I was also brought up to keep the house at 68 in winter. I'd suggest getting a box or pedestal fan, as others have suggested, and maybe keeping a basin with some ice water and a washcloth by your bed, so you can put a cold compress on your forehead or sponge yourself with ice water, or both, if you wake up in the night. There are also special pillows that don't get hot--they're designed for people who have hot flashes. Places like Bed, Bath and Beyond sell them.

In Boston I kept my place at 60 year round. It was actually cheaper because heat is more expensive than air conditioning.

Thanks for the rest. I'll keep that in mind. No money for a new pillow, but we're going to try to find a cheep fan and Ill try the thing with the ice water.

Good luck--I think the combination of the cool water and the fan might help. And maybe a couple of cotton maxi dresses for daytime?
