imo

obsessive anime fans are less creepy than bandom or people overly invested in celebrities' lives as they only affect fictional characters than actual people

my 2 cents

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that the bandom people are more harmful but less-fucked up

Also, to be clear, both things are extremely terrible & bad

anime is for jerks

"anime"

You do realize this is like saying "American film" or "British TV"

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I said anime fans. or I meant to, anyway

also let's not talk shit here. when we're talking about contemporary anime, and especially contemporary television anime, most of it is targeted towards fairly narrow demographics. anime as a medium is in no way niche; anime as it's produced right now is absolutely a niche product. and that's exacerbated by the fact that the stuff that people actually watch is disproportionately the stuff that's targeted towards that demographic. it's fucking ridiculous to look at the typical roster of anime produced in a given season in TYOOL 2015 and claim that it's basically comparable to American film or British TV over the equivalent period. two swallows don't make a summer, and a handful of films don't make a mature + diverse industry. what you have for the most part is rather just a few different and specific kinds of nerd appeal.

Really haven't noticed this at all, tbh, since most fans aren't fans of only the stuff that's coming out in 2015.

video games, however, are for idiots

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
primarily, yeah

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
...why is anime for jerks? IDGI.

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
it's a meme

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I've never found anime fans to be any more creepy than any other large fandom with a lot of teenagers in them.

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, there's still a 12% a modern day anime fan is a latent pedophile and that's more creepy than some teenage girl obsess with 1D or whatever

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-09 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say that only applies to that 12% though. Whereas all people who are overly invested in celebrities' lives are creepy.

Source? And no, your ass isn't a source.

Re: imo

clearly you've never met a pack of shrieking fangirls who think that the American dub voice actors are the characters and want them to do the character's mannerisms and lines.

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Bandom and other fandom fangirls do this, too, though. Have you never heard of the Supernatural fandom?

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
ia with this.

Also, ime anime fans are much less likely to 'infect' other fandoms/fan spaces. Like, superwholock is a thing, but superwhonaruto is not, even though Naruto might have a much larger fanbase and viewership than Sherlock.

Cool story anon.

Also you have clearly never met some of the creepier anime fans.

Re: imo

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
you've clearly never read up on celebrity stalking stories

spoiler: rebecca schaeffer dies

Child molestation... celebrity stalking... eh.

People do horrible shit in the name of fandom regardless of the fandom. That's just how it is. People in need of psychiatric care exist wherever you go.
