He's so excitable and huggable.
He's the most likely to loose memory of all the Doctor regenerations too. It's a curse.

I became aware of *some* small redeeming qualities when I listened to a Verity! podcast where one of the casters was set a challenge to mount a defense of him in two minutes. *lol*

It sort of makes sense: he's on his last life, so he's going to be ruthless and cutting right to the chase. But he's still the Master, so when he feels like he CAN waste time by rubbing his victory in the Doctor's face, he absolutely will. I don't that's deliberate, mind you, more of the acting choices of Eric Roberts that coincidentally complimented the writing in the script, but only in decent lighting. :P
I will defend the "as WELL as you" and "life is wasted on the living" scenes, though. Those are great.

(Note that I said enjoyable, and not 'good.')

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 04:51 am (UTC)(link)Also the (Masterless) "Step aside or I'll shoot myself" bit right after is one of my favorite momnents in all of Who. It's such a Doctor-y thing to do.
Well, it's because he's...
(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 02:49 am (UTC)(link)Also, he's sort of over the top. I think he wears a cape like Marvel's Dr. Strange at one point.
Re: Well, it's because he's...
(though imo, being eric roberts doesn't really get you points. i've heard he's a massive dickbag)

Eric Roberts also succeeds in the most crucial quality of the Master, which is to come across as enjoying thwarting the Doctor. You have to have a good time playing the Master! He gets humor, but he also gets some good creepy material. The scene in the bedroom with the EMT guy's wife is still a pretty good horror moment, despite dated fx. I also REALLY like the idea of his taking Chang Lee as a Master's foil to the traditional Doctor + Companion.
