Devour could have been 2 different and reasonably OK movies. Instead it largely fails.

So let's talk about things that did not live up to their potential at all.

American version of State of Play. It could have been SO great, given the changes in journalism since the original was made, and the big differences between the US and UK journalism/politics/police relationship. But the movie didn't change enough; I think they should have used the original as a jumping-off point instead of trying to replicate it exactly and take a lot of short cuts.

They did get the horror movie-esque lighting of the DC Metro right, though. I respect that.

Hobbit movies

You had a great cast. You had more money to do things right. You had a lot of the original group of people from LOTR behind the scenes. Moving to 3 movies could have meant opening up interesting stuff.

It was all wasted.

I think had they been left at 2 films and focused on the dwarves more the films would've been great.

As is, they're kind of a mess. (But I still find things to like about them.)

Yeah. Initially, I defended the 3 movies because I thought it would give more time to explore 13 characters and plotlines like Dol Goldur. But since they didn't do any of that, I think a lot of the issues in the movies that were actually made would be solved if they'd cut it down to 2 and throw everything else into an EE.

But, I still see the third movie as wasted potential because they *could* have done more to explore plotlines and characters and shaped the movies to fit the 3-movie structure. The whole thing was wasted potential IMHO.

IA, yea. I didn't despair when I heard we were getting three films either because like you, I think they could've made it work; it ended up feeling like a lot of...well, filler. A lot of the extra stuff made the films feel bloated and unnecessarily long.

Had it been a bit tighter, more focused and no-nonsense, it could've been good.

If not, a more straightforward adaption would've worked with 2 films.

Agree so hard with this.

The first movie was good, but the second two went downhill. I can't even say that the Mirkwood Elves were the start of it, because I feel Beorn's house the trek through Mirkwood before the Elves came in was cut too short, but I feel the movies concentrated too much on the Elves when they did come in.

The movies should have concentrated more on the dwarves than they did (which is why I feel the first movie was good, because it stayed with the dwarves), and the love triangle was stupid and mishandled.

Actually, to get specific on the love triangle, it might have been good, if Tauriel had not ended up so pathetic by the third movie, but I feel her "strong woman" characterisation got crippled by the romance.

I also think there was too much Legolas on a whole. Too much "Legolas does cool shit!" to the detriment of anyone else doing cool tricks. I was always glad he would make an appearance, because he would have been there, somewhere, but... too much.

Revolution TV series

Free! with the unnecessary drama and half-assed resolution in S2. S1 was nice, but S2 dropped the ball with Haru and his bird resolution, Sousuke being shoulder!pregnant and Rei and Nagisa getting their own "very special episode" before being shafted into the background.

Fate series: Gilgamesh as a villain in general.

Prometheus (movie) would have been interesting as the "Alien" prequel, like it was intended.

Snow White and the Huntsman and I'm still mad about this!
