I don't know this series or indeed even the author but my god, this comment. Wow. Presenting: the lesser spotted anime hipster in its natural habitat.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
OP

Bite me, the comment wasn't meant for you. I've got two degrees in literature and I've been collecting manga for a decade. Why should I pretend I'm only interested in things with a certain number of readers? I collect fashionable manga and less mainstream stuff. Trigun was actually very mainstream, and the anime aired on Adult Swim iirc (I'm not American). I don't see why I shouldn't have comparatively niche interests like any nerd.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it wasn't meant for me, you can tell by how it reeks faintly of that desire to sound clever and well-informed. Those dual degrees must be doing a lot for ya. Really, how long were you holding that in, just waiting for some poor soul to bite?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
OP

I don't know why you're assuming I'm a snob. I just like to talk about manga sometimes. Isn't that one of the many things f!s can be used for? I'm not judging other people when they talk at length about things I'm not particularly interested in. And this is actually my third secret posted this week - the other two were for mildly obscure fandoms too. I note you didn't come to hassle me on them.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I like how you assume this is in any way about your choice of fandoms. And how you said all of the stuff in your previous comment like it was a good thing. But no, don't get insecure now, you were doing really well!

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
OP

Then what on earth is it about? That I dared to put my criticism of and concern about a mangaka's current series in the context of his previous work, and the works and genre of which it is derivative?

That's... the gist of the original secret? Why is this a problem? Why do you need to try to tear me down?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-10 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you hear yourself when you talk? Honest question.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
New anon

Resorting to insults proves you know you're wrong, but you just can't admit it.

The other person's comment above was perfectly reasonable. They have a hobby and they like to enjoy it intelligently, so what?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, new anon.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
OP

Thank you, other anon. I was starting to think I'd actually done something odd in this thread, and you made me feel a bit better. Then my girlfriend woke up from what seemed to be a very intense dream about sausages, read the thread, and agreed that the troll came out of freakin' nowhere, so I guess I don't mind now. It's just... why even do that? Maybe I'm not in the greatest place right now. Maybe I am feeling it a bit about not living up to the promise of my degrees. Why is that any of troll!anon's business? Why've they got to attack people to feel good about themselves?

Eh, probably answered my own question there.

Don't sweat it too much OP, troll is just bored. I don't think you said anything off.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-12 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
neither ayrt or other anon, but while I agree there's a possibility they're a troll, I've seen plenty fans who can't stand /any/ criticism of their favorite show, but instead of bringing up said show's good points they use the same type of arguments anon has in this thread.

"Bite me, the comment wasn't meant for you. I've got two degrees in literature and I've been collecting manga for a decade."

But are you a top Navy SEAL with over 300 confirmed kills?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-11 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
OP

yes yes, alright, and I sell monogrammed thermos flasks, DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM etc. Just trying to add a bit of context for why I immediately wanted to start analysing why I wasn't enjoying the manga, and putting it into context with other stuff, since that's what the jerk upthread seemed to be getting hot under the collar about.

Also those degrees ain't shit where I live; I have a part-time job in an industrial kitchen. I'm okay with that.
